HORSE-CONTROLLER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. FINGARLos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State `of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the `horse-checking or controlling devices employedfor curing horses of vicious habits, such as kicking and rearing, the presentfdevice being designed more especially fork use in shoeingl and treating` horses.

The object of the sion of an effective and inexpensive d evice of this character which can be readily applied to the harness and which is adjustable to different sized animals.

The device comprises a checking-brace or strut, preferably composed of telescopic members A and B adjustably secured together by a set screw c or other suitable means. The upper telescopic rod or member A carries a fork D, the upper ends of which are provided with snap-hooks cl or other suitable attachments adapted to engage the bit rings e or ot-her adjacent parts of the harness.

At its lower end, the 'other telescopic member B is attached to the central portion of a yoke F the outer ends of which are provided with hooks f adapted to engage the hame-rings g or equivalent attachments carried by the hame or collar of a harness. This yoke is preferably divided centrally and transversely into two arms or sections f1, the adjoining ends of which are provided with overlapping eyes f2 which are adjustably secured together by a clamping bolt h. In order to apply this checking device, it is only necessary to loosen the set screw o and pass the hooks f of the yoke through the hame rings and engage the snap hooks CZ with the bit-rings. The animals head is then raised to the proper height and the set screw again tightened. f Y

It has been demonstrated by experience that this device cures an animal of kicking and other bad habits, permitting the horseshoer or veterinary surgeon to approach with safety.

As the adjustability of the yoke F adapts the device to horse collars and hames of different widths, the necessity of manufacturing a variety of checking devices for different sized horses is obviated.

As shown in Figs. 1 and 6, the hooks f of the yoke are preferably provided with inwardly-swinging detents or rings f4 to prevent accidental detachment of the yoke from the hame-rings.

I claim as my invention:

l. A checking attachment, comprising a yoke provided atits ends with attaching means adapted to engage a hame, said yoke being composed of sections adjustable towardv and from each other, Yand a checking brace attached at its lower end to the central portion of said yoke and provided at its upper end with attachments adapted to engage the bit-rings of a harness.

2. A checking attachment, comprising a yoke provided at its ends with attaching means adapted to engage a hame, said yoke vided at its upper ends with attachments adapted to engage the hame rings of the harness.

3. A checking attachment, comprising a yoke divided centrally into laterallyadjustable sections, said sections being provided at their outer ends With attachments adapted to engage the hame-rings of a harness, means for adjustably clamping the inner ends of said yoke-sections together, and a checking brace composed of telescopic sections and means for clamping the same in position, the lower end of said brace being attached to the central portion of said yoke and provided at its upper end With attachments adapted to engage the bit rings of a harness.

4:. A checking attachment, comprising a. yoke composed of laterally-adjustable sections having their inner ends overlapped, a. shank projecting forwardly from said lapped ends, a CiampinoV bolt passing through said ends into said s ank, a checking brace provided at its upper end With attachments adapted to engage the bit rings of a harness, and a transverse pivot-bolt connecting the lower end of said brace With said shank.
