Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERIC VINCENT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Matawatchan, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Pane Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a glass panel fastener and more particularly to the class of pane securing strips.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character in which a glass pane or panel will be securely'fastened within the window sash or frame without requiring the use of putty or other fasteners ordinarily used for this purpose.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character in which a pane of glass may be securely mounted within a window sash without requiring the use of putty and that it may be readily inserted or removed as occasion may require and also that it will obviate the rattling of the pane when fastened within the window sash.
With these and other objects in view the invention in general consists in a thin metallic strip folded on a longitudinal line to comprise parallel leaves or side portions one of which is provided with bendable barbs or teeth adapted to be forced into the adjacent edge of a window sash contiguous to the outer surface of the glass pane, thereby securely fastening-the said pane within the strip.
The invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings and the novel features of the same will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a window sash, showing the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a section of the same on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the securing strip prior to its being fastened to the sash. Fig. & is an inner edge view thereof showing the teeth in position prior to being driven into the sash. Fig. 5
is a fragmentaryenlarged plan view of the fastenerprior to the folding thereof.
Similar reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 5 designates the sash, it being of any preferred construction and being provided at its inner edge with a panel-receiving recess 6 or, in other words, the inner side of the said sash is rabbeted whereby a pane of glass 7 may be mounted within the sash, the edge of the pane or panel being seated in the recess in the ordinary well-known manner. This panel or glass 7 is secured in the sash by means of securing strips each comprising a metallic strip 8 the same being folded on a longitudinal line to provide side leaves 9 which are adapted to lie contiguous with each other for reinforcing the said strip. Cut and stamped from one of the leaves 9 of the strip 8 are a plurality of bendable barbs or teeth 10 the same being spaced from each other at intervals throughout the length of the strip, each, tooth 10 being bent into substantially L-shaped form whereby its free end may be driven into the side Wall of the recess receiving the panel or glass adjacent to the outer surface of the latter for the secure mounting thereof in the sash. The other leaf 9 of the strip at the points where the barbs or teeth 10 are located is provided with notches 11 in its free edge to permit the free ends of the barbs or teeth 9 to engage in the notches when being driven into the sash, thus bringing the free edges of the leaves 9 of the strip in contact with the outer face of the panes of glass whereby the strip w1ll abut against the glass or pane and securely fasten it in the sash.
The peculiar construction of the securing strip causes the glass to be firmly held within the sash and against its seat so that rattling of the said glass is positively prevented. Also leakage about the edge of the glass in the sash is prevented for the reason that the said glass or panel is firmly held in the seat in the sash.
What is claimed, is
A glass pane securmg device comprising .location of the said tongues to accommodate the inturned ends when being driven in the 10 Window sash whereby the strip Will lie against the inner edge of the latter.
