CURTAIN-EOLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 28, 1911.
Patented Nov. 28, 1911. serial no. 648.338.
To a!! whom it 17mg/ concer/i:
Be it known that I, Jessen: Kisn, a citi- Zen of the United States of America, residing at Duquesne. in the countyr of Allegheny and State of Pennsvlvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to curtain poles, and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a curtain pole that will present a neat and attractive appearance; second. to furnish a pole with a detachable section that can be easil;7 removed when itis desired to change or renew curtains; third, to afford novel means for retaining the detachable section of the pole in position, and fourth, to provide a pole thatis simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.'
Reference will now be had to the draw-V ing. wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the main section of the curtain pole; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the detachable section of the pole; Figv 3 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view of a portion of the pole; Fig. 4 is a plan of a portion ofthe detachable section. and Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of the pole.
A pole in accordance with this invention comprises a semi-cylindrical main section 1, and secured to the ends of this section b v screws :'2, or other fastening means are circular end plates 3. These end plates are made of metal, and adjacent to the upper edges thereof are provided with slots or sockets 4. Secured to the end plates 3, by screws 5 or other fastening means are caps 6 or other ornamentations.
The main section 1 has the fiat side thereof provided with a row of equall)T spaced pins or projections 7, adapted to protrude through a curtain 8 arranged upon the section 1. Detachably mounted upon the fiat surface of the main section 1 is a semi-cvlindrical detachable section 9 adapted to tit between the circular end plates 3. The section 9 has a longitudinal groove 10 providing clearance for the pin 7, said groove being of a less length than the detachable section. The groove 10 also provides clearf ance for rods 11, said rods having the outer ends thereof connected to bolts 12 slidably mounted in longitudinal openings 13 provided therefor in the ends of the section 9. The bolts 11 are flat and are adapted to cngage in the .slots or soclretsf provided therefor in the end plates 3. The inner ends of the rods 11 extend through staples 14. carried b v the section 9 and terminate. at an opening 15 intermediate the ends of said section. The confronting ends of the rods 11 are loosely connected, at 16 to latchesA 1T that extend through the opening 15. Interposed between the latches 17 is a coil compression spring 1S having the ends thereof attached to said'latches. The tension of the spring is sutiicient to retain the bolts in en; gagement with the end plates 3. thereby lockingthe section 9 in engagement with the section 1 and the curtains 8 between said sections. v
To prevent'the latches 17 from injuring the material bordering on the opening 15, a plate 20 is countersunlr. in the section f) and provided with an opening registering with the opening 15. Screws or other fastening meansrcan be used to retain the plate in position.
It is thought that the manner of assembling the parts of Vthe pole. also their utility7 will be apparent without furthe-r description, and while in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural elementsV thereof are susceptible to such variations as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim is:
l. A curtain pole comprising a semi-cylindrical main section, end plates secured to the ends of said main section and having sockets formed therein. pins carried bv said main section and adapted to retain curtains thereon, a semi-cylindrical detachable section arranged upon .said main section and having a groove formed therein providing clearance for said pins. rods arranged in the groove of said detachable section. bolts carried by the outer ends of said rods and adapted to engage in the sockets of said end plates, and means arranged between the confronting ends of said rods and adapted to normally retain said bolts in engagement with said end plates.
2. A curtain pole comprising a semi-cylindrical main section, and plates secured end plates. means arranged het Ween the confronting?r ends of said rods and adaptel to normally retain said bolts in engagement with said end plates, said means including latches protruding from said detachable seetion and ar compression spring arranged within said latches.
In testimony whereof I atlx my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
