To all whomfitfi'nay concern: Beitv known-that I, VAILTER S. Ence, a. citizen ef the United' States, and a resident of New' `York city, in the'county of New York and State of NewI York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dani Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
' My invention relates to dainconstruetions, and the object of my invention is to provide an improved constructioninV which concrete is used and reinforced by metal rods in such i a manner as to brace and strengthen the whereby the expansion and contraction of the structure as a. whole, will not cause the deck of thedam to crack, by reason of uneven 'expansion between the concrete and reinforcing rods.
A further object is to yprovide exceptiony' ally strong' joints between the buttre'sses and sidewalls and to provide at these junctions, pillarconstructions which extend from the base of the (lain to thedeck, and Where thought to be necessary, to' strengthenthese pillar portions with metal reinforcement.
The deck may be supported by thev but.; tresses and walls, or maybe formed integral, vdepending on local conditions and the spe-- ciiic plans furnished by the engineer, in charge of the work.-

The dani consists primarily of an inclined upstream deck l0 supported by vertical walls l1l running parallel to the stream, and inclined walls or buttresses llel1 and 11a extending across the stream and the walls and buttressesjoined integrally where they cross each other.
