To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that ll, MARTIN ld. Browne, a citizen ot the lUnit/ed States, residing at llVapakoneta, in the county ot luglaize and @tate ot hio, have invented a new and usel'ul Metallic lvlheel; and l do hereby declare the tollowing to be a tull, clear, and exact description ot the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it lll dll
appertains to make and use the same.
'llhis invention belongs to the art ot metallic wheel constructions tor vehicles and agricultural implements, and it particularly pertains to a metallic wheel in which the f spokes thereof are 'composed ot a single piece ot sheet metal which is depressed troni opposite sides so as to torm the spokes. 'lhe ltorming of the spokes in this manner leaves annular rings, one adjacent to the hub ot the wheel, to which the rtwo sections of the hub are clamped, and an outer annular ring, to which the two sections otIl the rim of the wheel are clamped or riveted.
'lhe main object ot the invention is to .t provide a wheel ot this kind which is simrangement, thereot, tor accomplishing they objects ot this device or apparatus, may be changed and varied, that is to` say, in anf actual reduction to practice, the understanding, however, is that the changes and variations accruing trom said reduction to practice are comprehended by the appended claim.

ln the drawings':-h"igure 1 is a side ele-i vation ot a metallic wheel embodying the :teatures ot the invention. llig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 ot' llig. l, clearly illustrating the details ot the invention` ll'ig. 3 is a detail sectional view on an enlarged scale, clearly delining the shoulders oit the spokes, serving to withstand the strain on the periphery ot the disk.
lnv regard to the annexed drawings, 1 designates a single piece ot sheet metal,
which is provided with a central opening 2,
as shown clearly in lllig. d.. 'llhis piece ot sheet metal is depressed from opposite sides, by any suitable means, but which is not shown, tor the reason that it torms no part lont the present invention. 'l`he pressing ot the sheet metal 'from opposite sides terms outwardly tapering spokes l ot thewheel, which extend radially trom the central opening. 'llhe torming ot the spokes in 'this manner materially strengthens the same, and the entire wheel. These spokes do not quite extend to the periphery ot this piece ot sheet metal, and tor this reason, there remains an unobstructed annular' surface and periphery 5, to which the two annular sections 6 ot the rim 7 ot the wheel are bolted or riveted, v
or otherwise secured, as shown at 8. rlhe spokes l taper outwardly trom the hub, and the outer ends ot the spokes 'serve as shoulders l", terminating short ot the sections or annular rings 6 to withstand the strain on the periphery oit the disk, and to act as abut-ments tor the rings or sections 6..'
'llhese sections or rings 6 of the rim oi.' the wheel are annuarly grooved, as indicated by the numeral 9, and when secured to the unobstructed surface ot the sheet metal, there is an annular groove 10 tormed about the entire rim ot the wheel, which annular groove l0 is semi-circular in cross section.
'lhe hub 11 ot the wheel is composed ott three members 12, 13 and 1l-;'the member 12 (which is the hub proper ot the wheel) is provided with a threaded portion 15, and a shoulder 16, which is formed in the shape ot convolutions 17, so as to lit properly and adjacent to the said spokes. 'llhe member 13 is in the torm ot a washer, having convolutions 18 to Ht the spokes, and opposite the shouldered portion ot the member 12. lllhen the washeror'member 13 is securely clamped adjacent to the spokes, by means ol the member or nut ll, end wise movement or lateral movement ot the hub portion proper or the member 13, is materially prevented,l as will be clearly apparent on er:- amining the drawings. rllhe member or nut lll: is provided with threads to engage the v threaded portion ltiot the member 12, as shown. 'llhe hub portion proper or member 12 is provided with a cylindrical bore 19, so as to ht the spindle ot an arde.V
By torming Aspokes or convolutions. ot metallic wheels in this manner, strength, durability and rigidity is adorded, as will be clearly evident.,

Having thus y described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful,` 1s:-
In a wheel having a hub provided with a threaded portion having an annular convoluted plate, the hub having a convoluted washer fitting the threaded portion and provided with a nut threaded on the threaded portion against the washer; the wheel comprising a single sheet metal plain disk through which the threaded portion penetrates; annular rings secured on each face of the disk adjacent the periphery thereof, and
'constructedto form an annular groove; the
disk having spokes pressed in opposite d1- rections, therein, and tapering outwardly from the hub, the outer ends Yof the spokes serving as shoulders terminating short of the annular rings to withstand the strain on the periphery of the disk, and to act as abutments for the rings.
In testimony whereof I have signed ,my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
