SAFETY-Razor.
Specification of Letters I latent. Patented Nov; 21 1911,.
Application filed October 25,1510. serial No. 589,076.
To all whom it may concern; Be it known that I, PHILIP QUINT, a citizen pf the United States, residing at of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Safety-Razors,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of razors using flexible blades, having either single or double edges, the
easily and quickly manipulated so .as to ef-- 'fectually perform the 'function intended. My device is so constructed that by a slight fractional turn of the handle the sev; eral parts may be disassembled for cleaning purposes or otherwise. "At the same time, the slightest part of a turn in the opposite direction binds the parts into po- J? or a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevationof the razor an inverted perspective view; Fig. 3 is a a detail perspective of the clamping plate.
Throughout the following description and on the several figures of the drawings, simi lar parts are referred to bylike reference Referring to the drawin'gs, 1 is a handle,
internally threaded socket '2. therein into which the clamping plate 3 is adapted to be fastened by; means of a threaded stud} 4. This clamping plate is transversely curved and has'centrally locatedthereon a rectangular boss or stud 5' from the center of 6 represents a flexible blade with preferably two cutting edges and having centrally located therein a rectangular shaped slot 7 which is adapted to fit firmly over the boss 5 to properly position the blade on the clamping plate.
8 indicates'a guard-piece having also a centrally disposed slot 9 adapted to receive theboss 5 in the same manner as the blade 6. The guard-piece 8 is curved transversely and provided with the guard-slots or notches 10 on its longitudinal edges which so projectbeyond' the cutting edges of the shaving' In this instance, the guard-piece 8 is provided with spaced springcams 11,
blade as to protectthe skin of'the user when by any well known-means, on eitherside of I the slot 9, which are adapted-to engage with the handle 1 when the same is screwed on the stud 4, by means of the opposite shoulders 1 and thus cause the flexible blade to bedrawn down and held in op'erativeposi tion.
In as'semblingthe partsof this razor, the
blade 6 is placed on the 'clamping plate 3, and the guard-piece 8 is placed thereon, both being properly positioned by the rectangular boss 5, after which the handle 1 is screwed on'and when the same is screwed: down far enough to engage-the cams 11, the several parts are held'snugly in proper position for use, practically only a quarter turn thenbeing necessary to place the razor in operative condition.
pressing the metal outwardly from. the body As before mentioned, preferably the cams 11 are made byof the guard-piece 8, thereby forming members having a certain amount of yieldability or spring action.
As hereinbefore mentioned, a special feature of the present device is to; construct a safety razor in which the parts are so arranged that only a slight turn of the handle is necessary to permit the blade'clamping. plate and guard parts to be separated,
whereby lather and other foreign matter may be readily removed poses.
The above operation is permitted by reason -of the fact that a quarter turn of the handle 1 will disengage the same from the cams l1 and the guard piece is movable to- Ward the handle, on the boss 9, sufiiciently to separate the parts8 and 6 from the clamping plate 3. While loosely supported by the boss 9, the above parts .may be cleansed by permitting water to-run thereon and therebetween, after which the parts are properly positioned in the manner hereinbefore described.
Obviously I do notv wish to. be confined to the use of double edged blades nor to the use oftwo cams for the invention may be modified inrespect to these features.
.Having thus fully described my invention, what is claimed as new is In a razor, the combination with a clamp for cleansing purfrom, a guard-piece having spaced cams on one side thereof and a slot thereln to receive said boss, a threaded stem Projecbmg from saidhoss, a blade clamped between the guard-piece and said clamping plate and having a slot therein to receive said boss, and a handle screwed upon the threaded stem and having opposite shoulders engageable with the cams to firmly clamp the. guard-piece to the clampin plate. 1L In testimony whereof I a xmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
- PHILIP QUINT.
