Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO BORCHARDT, en gineer, citizen of the United States of America, residing at No. 31 Kantstrasse, Charlottenburg, near Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Cartridge-Ejecting Devices for Firearms, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
This invention relates to a novel arrangement of cartridge ejector for fire-arms the use of which permits the eject-ion of a cartridge to take place at a variable distance from the end of the barrel, and also permits of regulating the ejecting operation so that it is quicker or slower according to requirements.
The device under the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 shows the ejector in its inoperative position resting against the end of the cartridge, the breech being closed and its movable parts being shown in longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 shows the breech open when the extracted cartridge case has already been ejected; the ejector occupies its operative position under the iniiuence of the stop hereinafter described.
In the iirst place as regards the general arrangement of the breech illustrated to which the ejector is applied in the present case, it comprises broadly the breech block lc which is movable backward and forward and which effects its closing and opening movement in the breech casing g carrying the barrel. The ejector fw is rockablymounted on the front end of the breech block 7c and, in the construction here illustrated, consists of a lever member approximately triangular in form which is pivotally held by a stud 'v in a recess icl in the breech block Ic. When the block moves back the ejector w is actuated owing to the fact that its outer face w1 which projects outward over the side face of the block in the inoperative position (Fig. l) meets a stop u provided in the breech casing thereby causing it momentarily to come into the operative position, that is to say it is turned around its stud 'v which effects the actual ejection of the cartridge (Fig. 2).
As will be seen from the drawing, the outer faces w1 and u1 of the ejector w and of the stop u are formed in such a manner that the ejector is able to slide over the stop, thereby rendering it possible to eject the cartridge at a variable distance from the end of the barrel. In particular the front shoulder u1 of the stop u is chamfered in such a manner that it forms with the side wall of the casing an angle greater than 90o; according as this chamfering is made smaller or greater the ejection can be caused to take place more speedily or slowly. l/Vith this arrangement it is therefore readily possible to regulate exactly both the time of the ejection and also the speed with which it takes place, and to adapt it precisely to the prevailing requirements.
IVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by patent is:
l. A cartridge ejector for iirearms, comprising an ejector lever pivotally mounted on the front end of the breech-block, and a stop on the casing operating said ejector lever to act on the base of the cartridge, said lever being adapted to slide over said stop.
2. A cartridge ejector for firearms comprising an ejector lever pivotally mounted on the front endof the breech-block and a stop on the casing operating said ejector lever to act on the base of the cartridge, the pivotal part of said ejector lever being in a plane permitting said stop to pass beyond the same.
3. A cartridge ejector for firearms comprising an ejector lever pivotally mounted on the front end of the breech-block, and a stop on the casing operating said ejector lever, said stop having an inclined operating face permitting said ejector lever to pass beyond the same.
