I shells for rock drilling machines and has particularly for its object to provide means for effectually taking up wear upon the shell incident to the use of the machine.
My invention more particularly consists in providing the shell with a pair of shell caps, each comprising a wearing plate and a top plate, side liners being interposed between a flange on the wearing plate and the shell serving as a means for adjusting the wearing plat-e laterally tol take up wear, liners interposed between the top plate and the wearing plate serving as a means for adjusting the fiat plate with respect to the wearing plate, also for taking up wear, and liners interposed between the outer face of the shell and the inner face of the wearing plate serving as a -means for taking up wear upon the top face of the wearing plate. It is to be understood that one or both of the shell caps may be adjusted for taking up wear as desired.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents the shell in top plan, Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, Flg. 3 is a section taken in the plane of the line A-A of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows, Fig. 4 is a View of the shell in side elevation, Fig. 5 is a detail plan view of one of the cap wearing plates, Fig. 6 is a side view of the same, Fig. 7 is a plan View of one of the cap top plates, Fig. 8 is a plan view of one of the top plate liners, Fig. 9 is a plan view, partially broken away, of one of the wearing plate liners, and Fig. 10 is a plan View partially broken away, of one of the wearing' plate side liners.
. The shell is ldenoted by 1 and it is provided with a pair of oppositely arranged shell caps. Each shell cap comprises a top plate 2 and a wearing plate-3. This wearing plate 3 is provided along its outer edge with an uprising flange 4 and along its inner edge with a depending flange 5. Removable liners 6 are interposed between the top face of the flange 4 and the bottom face of the top plate 2. Removable side liners 7 are 'interposedbetween the shell and the outer face of the longitudinal ange 5 of the wearing plate. Removable liners 9 are also interposed between the top face of the shell 1 and the bottom face of the wearing plate 3. Longitudinally arranged series of bolts 10, withtlieir nuts 11, serve to rigidly attach the shell caps to the shell. These bolts pass through laterally elongated slots 12 in the top plates 2 and laterally elongated slots 13 in' the flanges 4 of the wearing plates 3, laterally elongated slots 14 in the liner 6 and laterally elongated slots 15 in the liners 9, thus permitting a lateral adjustment of the cap and liners by the insertion and removal of the side liners 7 which are interposed between the shell and the flanges 5 of the cap wearing plates. Wear upon the top faces of the wearing plates 3 may be taken up either by the removal of one or more of the liners 6 or by the insertion of one or more of the liners 9. It will thus be seen that wear in any direction upon the shell cap or the cylinder ofthe machine may be readily and easily taken up by the insertion or removal of certain of the liners, as herein set forth.
What I claim is 1. A shell for rock drilling machines including a cap comprising a wearing plate and a top plate and means for adjusting the top plate toward and away from the wearing plate and means for adjusting the wearing plate laterally for taking up wear.
2. A shell for rock drilling machines including a cap comprising a wearing plate and a top plate, one or more removable liners interposed between the top Aplate and the wearing plate and one ormore removable liners interposed between the wearing plate and shell for taking up wear.
3. A shell for rock drilling machines in-` l cluding a cap comprising a wearing plate having an uprising flange at its outer edge and a depending ange at its inner edge, a top plate, one or more removable liners interposed between the top plate and the upris-v cludin'g a cap comprising a wearing plate and a top plate, one or more removable side liners interposed between the wearing plate and shell for adjusting the wearing plate laterally, one or more removable liners interposed between the Wearing plate and shell for adjusting the wearing plate toward and away from the shell and one or more removable liners interposed between the top l0 plate and wearing plate for adjusting the top plate toward and away Afrom the wearing plate for taking up wear.
