My present invention has for its object to I rcvide means whereb a flexible connection between the rotating block and the wire gripping?r mechanism will be immediately drawn entirely within a shield or protecting rim upon the top of the block, whenever the strain upon the flexible connection isv relieved, ras by the breakingl ofl the wire, thereby preventingv the centrifugal movement of the tiexible connection caused by the rotation of theblocl, and furtherto provide means for locking the liexible connection in an extended position to acilitate'the application of the gripping mechanism to the 'wire to be drawn before the rotation of the block isfhcgnn. These objects are .aceomplished' by. the construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter describedy and set forth in the annexed claims. 1
