The particular form'of machine which I have chosen. to illustrate my invention is of the type shown, described and. claimed in my pending application Serial 539942 l of even date herewith, in which the cylinder is provided with a plurality of flat beds for receiving chases of type and the impression cylinder, driven atvariable rates of speed by the form cylinder, is providcd with a plurality of impression segments for presenting blanks successively to the chases of type on the form cylinder, and

The frame of the machine is denoted by l, 'elrive shaft by 2, the form cylinder 1y and the impression cylinder by 4. The form cylinder is continuously rotated by the drive shaft through a pinion 5 on the dri shaft in mesh with a spur Wl'ieel (3 on the rorm cylinder shaft and the impression cylinder is continuously driven at variable rates o speed by the form cylinder through 'pccicl arrangement of inter-coacting mu.- cl gears. A set of delivery tapes 9 pass over aroll 10 carried loosely on the drive shaft 2, with ,its face in proximity to the face of the impression segment on'the impression cylin: der; thence the tapes 9 pass to and partially around a set of rimmed pulleys 11 fixed to rotate with the cam shaft 7 and which impart motion to the tapes, and thence .to and around guide pulleys 12 mounted on a shaft 1.3, the shaft 13 being so located tluitlh'c" attached to the frame I, and thence around" pulleys 21 carried by a floating shaft 22 supported in arius 23, 24, fixed to and extending rearwardly from the shaft '18. "The floating shaft 22 is located sufficiently near the pulleys 12 to cause the set of tapes to receive a printed sh ect asit leaves the set of tapes 9, Whenever the said floating shaft and hcnce the rearward portion oft-the endless carrier, rocked into its depressed position below the plane of travel of the sheets on the tapes 9. The shaft 18 and hence the arms 23, 24, are rocked at predetermined intervals by a pi (man 25, connected at one end to a crank 26 on the shaft 18, and at its opposite end, forked to embrace a projection 27 on the end of the impression cylinder shaft. and provided with a laterally projecting pin 28 with autifriction roller 29 in position to be engaged by a cam 30 carried by 'a collar 31 fixed on the projection 27. The caml 30 will force the pitman 25 endwise once during each revolution of the impression cylinder and thereby rock the shaft 18 in a direction to lift the floating shaft 22 and hence rearward portion of the tapes 15, and so maintain it while a sheet from one of the impression segments is being depos-- -1ted into or onto the receiver 14 and. the
shaft 22 and parts'carriedthereby will then be allowed to drop so asto direct the next succeeding sheet onto the t pes 15 and hence deposit the sheet into. the receptacle 32. The
tapes 15 are actuated by a belt 83 driven by a pulley 3 1 fixed on the cam shaft 7 and extending around a pulley fixed onthe sleeve 17.
In practice I prefer'to use three tapes in the'set 9, and four in the set 15, the individual tapes 15falternating with the tapes 9 and affording a somewhat wider spread for the set of rocking tapes to guard against any unintentional slipping of a sheet off the set to one side.
The above simple arrangement of delivery tapes serves to place the successive printed sheets when both impression segments are inuse, different piles affording the sheet last deposited an interval of time to dry, to wit: an interval corresponding to the time required to deliver a successive sheet before itsis disturbed by the falling of another sheet on it; and, when the two chases of type on the form cylinder present independent subject matter, as for instance, labels for different garden seeds, the two jobs may be carried on at one and the same time, the labels printed on the bags to contain one kind of seeds being deposited in one pile, for instance in the receiver 14:, and those to con tain seeds of a different kind in another pile in the receiver 32.
\Vhen, as in thepresent illustration, the middle portion of the flat bed on the form cylinder rotates in a path at a considerable less distance from the axis of the cylinder than the end portions of said bed, itis feasible to locate the upper roller for the tapes 9 only as near the fiat bed as will .permit the end portions thereof to freely pass and the sheet to be printed must be held by the grippers until its gripped edge has passed between the t-apes"9-and the impression segment at which moment the grippers J anuary 1910.

1. In combination, a form cylinder pro vided with a. plurality of forms, an impression cylinder provided with a plurality of impression segments arranged to coact with the said forms, a plurality of receptacles and a selective delivery mechanism in coactive relation with the said form and impression cylinders and including a set of tapes mounted at their ends toward the cylinders on a floating shaft, for depositing successive printed sheets from the plurality of impression segments into different rece tacles.
2. In combination, a form cy index. provided with a plurality of forms, an impression cylinder provided with a plurality of impression segments arranged to coact with the said forms, a plurality of receptacles and a selective delivery mechanism. comprising a set of tapes permanently located in space, a second set of tapes mounted at one end on a floating shaft and adapted to swing into and out of the plane of the first named set to direct successive sheets from the plurality of printing segments into different receptacles and a pitman connected with the impressioncylinder shaft for swinging the set of swinging tapes at the desired intervals.
