As shown in Figs. 4 and 6 the inking roller 7 is provided at its ends with collars or sockets 8 bearing upon said bearers and forming treads traveling upon the bearers, there be ing recesses or reduced portions at 8 between the sockets proper and the ends of their inking roller, these recesses having no bearing whatever upon the bearers. In

Referring to the present embodiment of my invention the usual type bed 1 is provided on its opposite sides and adjacent the platen 9., with the bearer deviceseach of which is similarly made and operated. As
usual form of said sockets but reverse them so as to bring their treads in position to cooperate with the bearers as clearly illustrated in the drawings.
Vl hat I claim is:
1. In combination with a type bed of a printing press, bearers thereon each comprising a pair of plates slidable upon each other but movable in directions at right angles to each other, one of said plates being movable toward and away from the plane of the type bed; substantially as described.
2. In combination with a type bed of a printing press, bearers thereon each comprising a pair of plates slidable upon each other but movable in directions at right angles to each other, one of said plates being movable toward and away from the plane of the type bed, the other of said plates having a rack for operating purposes; substantially as described.
In combination with a type bed of a printing press, bearers thereon each comprising a pair of plates slidable upon each other and movable in directions at right angles to each other, and having pin and slot connection with, each other, and means for operating one of the plates; substanl'ially as described.
4%. in combination with a type bed of a printing press, bearers thereon each comprising a pair of plates slidable upon each other and 'niovable in directions at right angles to each other, one of the plates having flanges and the other thereof having inclined edges cooperating with said flanges; substantially as described.
In combination with the typebcd of a printing press, an adjustable bearer at each side thereof comprising a plate forming the bearer proper and having sliding engagement with the bed, and a second plate cooperating with the first plate and having sliding engagement with the first plate and arranged to .move the latter inwardly and outwardly with respect to the face of the type bed, said plates being movable in directions at right angles to each other; sub stantially as described.
6. In combination with the type bed of a printing press, an adjustable bearer at each side thereof comprising a plate forming the bearer proper and having sliding engage-- ment with the bed, and a second plate sliding upon the first plate and longitudinally movable, said second plate being arranged to operatively engage and thereby move the first plate, said plates being movable in directions at right angles to each other; substantially as described.
7. In combination with the type bed of a printing press, an adjustable bearer at each side thereof comprising a plate forming the bearer proper and having sliding engagement with the bed, and a second plate sliding upon the first plate and longitudinally movable, said second plate being arranged to operatively engage and thereby move the first plate, said second plate having a rack to receive an operating tool and the first plate having an opening to receive the same tool; substantially as described.
8. In combination with the type bed of a printing press, an adjustable bearer at each side thereof comprising a plate forming the bearer proper and having sliding engagement with the bed through a pin and slot connection, and a second plate co6perating with the first plate and arranged to move the latter inwardly and outwardly with respect to the face of the type bed, said second plate having pin and slot connection with the bed through the same pin as the first plate; substantially as described.
9. In combination with the type bed of a printing press, an adjustable bearer at each side thereof comprising a plate form ing the bearer proper and having sliding engagement with the bed, said plate having side flanges, and a second plate coiiperating with said flanges to move the first plate inwardly and outwardly with respect to the face of the type bed; substantially as described.
