To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORG .Hnssnizrnm a subject of the King of Bavaria, residing at lVrZburg, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cofi'ee-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a coffee-machine of that type in which the kettle oscillates automatically as soon as the water is boiling so that the boiling water is poured over the coffee, the ame of the heater being extinguished at the same time7 by a lid which had been kept open by the said boiler.
In the accompanying drawings the improved coffee-machine is shown by way of example.
Figure l is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1, the heater being emitted. Fig. 22t shows a constructional detail. Fig. 3 represents in section the lower part of the boiler. Fig. 4 shows the device which makes the boiler swing7 the lid being removed and the device being shown partly in section.
The boiler is composed of two parts 1 and 2 which are connected by a handle 4 screwed upon the threaded anges 3 of said parts. A cylinder 5 fixed at the side of the lower part 2 of the boiler communicates through an opening with a water chamber 6 arranged in said boiler part. In said cylinder 5 a piston 7 is arranged which has a conical head 8 at the outer end of its rod. Vhen the boiler is suspended in the frame of the coffee-machine, the conical head 8 is situated under a lever 9.
In the top plate of the water chamber 6 a valve 10 is provided which is normally closed by means of the spring 11. A hand knob 12 at the upper end of a push rod serves for pushing back said valve so that the water from the boiler can flow into the said water chamber 6 and into the cylinder 5. The boiler is pivotally mounted in the frame 13 by means of the said handle 4 and by means of a ournal 14 of the upper part 1 engaging with an axle 15 which has a convenient slot 16.
The device which makes the boiler swing around, (Fig. 4) is inclosed in a flat casing 17 and consists of an angle lever 19 adapted to turn around a pivot 18, of the hereinbefore mentioned lever 9 adapted to swing around a pivot 20, of a click 21 influenced by a spring 41, of the shaft 15 which is mounted in the bush 22 to which the crank handle 23 is fixed and of a spring 24 lixed with one end t0 said crank handle and with the other end to the said bush 22.
In the frame 13 a rod 28 is movably mounted which is guided in a guide ring 25, its movement being limited by the stop screw 27 projecting through the slot 26; a spring inclosed in a cylinder 29 serves for maintaining the rod in its normal position shown in Fig. 2. The rod 28 has a nose 30 with which engages a pin 31 of the upper boiler part arranged directly above the journal 14 (Fig. 2a) so that when the boiler is tilted over, said pin pushes the rod 28 down.
lAfter about one third of a revolution the pin 31 slides od the nose of the rod so that the latter immediately returns to its normal position through the action of the spiral spring, a hammer 32 striking against a bell to give a signal. In order to obtain a long signal the rod 28 can have teeth with which engages a toothed wheel arranged between two bells and carrying convenient hammers. A two-armed lever 34 pivotally mounted below the lower end of the rod bears with one arm againstsaid rod and with its other arm against the lifted lid 35 of the heater 36 so that when the rod 28 goes down said lid is closed and the flame ofthe burner is extinguished. The shaft 15 has a nipple 37 (Fig. 4) adapted to engage with a notch 38 of the bush 22. When the spring 24 is under tension it retains the nipple 37 through the intermediary of the click 2l. A regulating screw 39 serves for regulating the position of the lever 9.
The improved codec-machine operates as follows :WY hen the water begins to boil the piston 7 is lifted by the pressure of the steam sothat its head 8 pushes against the lever 9 which thus releases the lever 19. This lever oscillates owing to the action of its spring and striking against the arm of the click 21 releases the nipple 37. The shaft 15 being thus released revolves under the action of the spring 24 and takes the boiler along by means of the square journal 14. The boiling water is thus poured over the coffee contained inthe part 1 of the boiler. During the half revolution of the shaft 15 the nipple 31 acts upon the rod 28 whereby the alarm signal is given and the flame is extinguished by the closing of the lid 35. The rod 28 returns again to its normal position. l
The improved machine can, of course be used not only for preparing coffee, but also for chocolate, tea and other beverages.
I claim l. An improved coffee-machine comprising in combination, a frame, a boiler composed of two parts revolubly mounted in said frame, the shaft for said boiler, a spring for rotating said shaft, a click for locking said shaft, a nipple of said shaft with which engages said click, a lever for withdrawing said click from the nipple of the shaft, a spring acting upon said lever, a lever for releasing said spring influenced lever, a water chamber in the lower boiler part, a cylinder fixed to said lower boiler part and communicating with said water chamber, a piston in said cylinder serving to push against said lever when the water is boiling', a heater under the boiler, a lid for said heater and means for closing the lid when the boiler swings around, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.

An improved coffee-machine comprising in combination, a frame, a boiler composed of two parts revolubly mounted in said frame, an arm projecting from the upper boiler part, a shaft for said boiler, a spring for rotating said shaft, means for locking said shaft and means for releasing the locking means as soon as the water is boiling, a rod vertically mounted at the side of the boiler, a spring maintaining said rod in normal position, a nose of said rod against which strikes said arm of the boiler when the boiler swings around, ay hammer hinged to said rod and an alarm bell rung by said hammer, a heater under the boiler, the lid of said heater, a lever for maintaining the lid open, an arm of said lever eX- tending below said rod which in descending acts upon said arm and releases the lid so that it closes and e-Xtinguishes the flame of the heater, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set fort-h.
