' To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MIKE LUTENBERGER, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Blocton, in the county of Bibb and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rocking-Chairs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to rocking chairs, and the primary object of my invention is to furnish a rocking chair with positive and reliable means, in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for maintaining a circulation of air in the vicinity of the chair, whereby the chair can be comfortably used in the summer time.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a chair with a cooling chamber in which can be stored fruit, bottles of liquid and other matter for the convenient use of the occupant of the chair.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed. a

Reference will now be had to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure l is a front elevation of the chair with the seat cover thereof raised, Fig. 2

is a vertical sectional view of the chair, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged rear elevation of an electric fan and motor adapted to form part of the chair.

A rocking chair in accordance with this invention comprises rockers 1 having vertical arm posts 2 and back posts 3. The arm posts 2 are connected by transverse rounds 4 and the back posts 3 by transverse rounds 5 and 6. The arm posts 2 are connected to the back posts'3 by longitudinal rounds 7 and the upper ends of the arm posts 2 support the'folfward ends of arms 8 and 9 having the rear ends thereof suitably connected to the posts 3. The uppermost rounds 4 and 5 support a perforated seat 10 and this seat is provided with a cover 11 having a depending front piece 12 and a back piece 13, said pieces being suitably connected to the chair. The arms 8 and 9 have vertical covers 14 and the back posts 3 are connected upon the rear sides by a cover 15.

partment there is located an electric fan 22 of the ordinary and well known type, the fanz'mfer alz'aembodying a bladed wheel 23, a crank shaft 24 and a motor 25. In the front compartment there is placed a box 26 having a lid 27 and in the box can be placed any suitable matter.

Mounted upon the platform 16 at the sides of the structure are batteries 28 preferably of the dry cell type, these batteries being retained upon the platform by straps 29 mounted over said batteries. The poles 30 of the batteries are connected by wires 31. The pole 32 of one battery is connected by a wire 33 to a conventional form of knife switch 34 arranged upon the under side of the arm 9, and said knife switch is connected by another wire 35 to the binding post 36 of the motor '25. The other binding post 37 of the motor is. connected by a wire 38 to the pole 39 of the other battery. When the knife switch is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, a circuit is completed through the batteries 29 and the motor 25, whereby the fan will be operated to produce a suction of air through the opening 21 in the rear wall 19, the air being exhausted through the opening 21 in the front wall 18 of the housing, thereby maintaining a circulation of air through the front compartment of the housing. The circulation of air beneath the seat 10 maintains the same in a cooled condition and as the air in the vicinity of the rocking chair will be agitated, the occupant of the chair can comfortably use the same in extremely warm Weather.

What I claim is 1. The combination with a rocking chair having rounds, arms, and a perforated seat, of a platform supported by some of said rounds, a housing arranged upon said platform and having the front and rear walls thereof provided with openings, an electric fan located in said housing adjacent to one of said openings for forcing air through the housing and operable independently of the rocking movement of the chair, batteries mounted upon said platform at the outer sides of said able independently of the rocking movement of the chair, batteries arranged upon sai platform and in circuit with said fan, a switch carried by one of said arms and adapted to control the circuit through said fan and said batteries, and covers arranged upon the seat and sides of said chair adjacent to said housing, substantially as described.

In combination, a rocking chair provided with a perforated seat, means to constitute a compartment arranged below the seat and having each end open, means within said compartment and operable independently of the rocking movement of the chair for forcing air through said compartment, and means carried by the chair for controlling the operation of said air forcing means.

4. In combination, a rocking chair provided with a perforated seat and a compartment below said seat, said compartment having each end open, electrical means mounted in said compartment for forcing air therethrough and operable independently of the rocking movement of the chair, and means carried by one of the arms of the chair for controlling the operation of said electrical means.

5. In combination, a rocking chair provided with a perforated seat, a platform arranged below said seat and supported by. the frame of the chair and forming a com partment, an electrically operated means mounted upon said platform and operable independent of the rocking movement of the chair for forcing air through said compartment, a source of electrical energy mounted upon said platform, circuit forming wires between said means and said source, and means carried by the frame of the chair for opening and closing the circuit.

6. In combination, a rocking chair provided with a perforated seat and a pair of arms, means to constitute a compartment arranged below the seat and having each of its end walls formed with an opening, an electrical means within said compartment and operable independent of the rocking movement of the chair for forcing air through said compartment, and means carried by one of the arms of the chair for controlling operation of the said air forcing means.
