PHILIP K. WILLIAMS, OF GLASTONBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO J'. B. WILIIIIAMS COMPANY, F GLASTONBURY', CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
Y To all whom it, may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP K. VVILLI'AMS, a citizen of the United,States,`residing at Glastonbury, Hartfordy county, 'Stale of Connecticut, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Shaving- Stick Holders and Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a combined shaving stick holder and case, and embodies manyffeatures of advantage, as hereinafter described. Y
In the drawings, Figure 1 isa side elevation. .of the case complete, the soap stick l5 2 is a side elevation of the stick and holder detached from the case. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the parts shown in Fig. 1. lFig. 4 is a section on the line .acof Fig.
26 3. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the holderalone.
Fig. 6 is a side elevation thereof. Fig.' 7 is a plan view of a detached detail. Fig. 8 is a side view of the same detail. Fig. 9
is a section of the soap` stick alone on the` plane of the line Fig. 3, looking down. Fig. 10 is a side velevation ofthe lower end of the soap stick. l 1`v is an external metallic shell constituting the main body of the case, the same being closed at one end.` 2 is av lining of 'heavy paper, or the like, which extends v'out to the edge of the case at the open end for tlie purposes hereinafter described. v
3 isa stick of soap.
4 is an annular groove in the side of', and near one end of, thestick 3. l
5-5 are longitudinal grooves leading vfrom the end of the stick to the annular groove 4, the function of be seen.
The holder, in its preferred`form, comprises a cup-shaped shell 6, having a contracted-portion 7 to form a holdlngshoulder, said contracted portion being of an internal diameter corresponding closely to the external diameter of the stick 3. "Wit-hin the shellG is a lining piece 8 held therein in any suitable way, the said lining piece constituting aI step for the lower end of the stick 3 below the groove 4.' If deslred, the shell 6 may have an extension .9.
10 is an incline between the contractedl portion 7 and the main body o f the shell 6. The main body of the shell 6 1s so proporf .silcmcauo'n 4:aac-em. Appnqationvaied Beamterz 27', 11.910. `serial and holder being assembled therewith. Fig.

tioned as to` snugly fit into thev open end of the lining 2 ,of'thec'aseL 1]. is a vent piercing thewall of 1 and the lining 2.
412 is a mass of'l solidified -plasticmaterial 60 arranged within the shell 6, said material completely filling the space therein and projecting into the annular groove 4, so as to lock the stick 3 in the shell 6. When the the case stick is inserted into the shell 6,' the plastic 65 material should'be in liquid state sothat asrsaid stick is forced in, said materialwill iiow through the passages 5 into, and completely around, the annular groove 4, thereby effectively anchoring said stick within said shell. One orl more of these grooves 5 is important because any plastic material 'in the bottom of the step 8 could not other- Wise escape therefrom as the stick is being forced in.' Since the step 8 furnishes a 75 very substantial support for the lower end of the stick 3, it follows that said groove' or grooves 5 perform a very important func- Y tion in permit-ting the proper assembling of the parts. The plastic material` is preferably of some waterproof compoundwhichwill, on'cooling, harden, paratiin beingA one suitable material for this purpose. By reason of the waterproof .character of the stick anchoring material, that part ofthe stick.85 'I uhin the shell' is yeffectively protected from soap ,at that' pointy cannot become dissolved so as I weaken the connection between said cayyfr/i'd shell. The `flining 2 performs two important functions; V90 first, by enrtending out to the edge of'the l open end of the case l it prevents direct contact of the side of thesoap with the relatively sharpl metal edge upon insertingl the stick, thereby preventing the gouging ofv the side of the stick; second, being rela-tlvely. yielding asv compared with metal, i't enables the shell 6 to be forced into friction tight contact so as to securely hold the stick snugly housed within the case 1.v
The function of the vent l1 is to permit the escape of air from the case 1 when the shell 6 is being pushed home. The snugness of the ,tit of the shell 6 within the lining 2 is such that air cannot escape around the shell, and if, after a time, the lining near the open end of thecase 1 should become lubricated by the soap, it is obvious that a pressure of air within the case wouldtend to force out the shell and stick 3. To v` 'that When'the shell 6 is fully seiied, it will avoid this, hevent 1l is, by pleference, pmieri-a1 within che c; se extending to and pm-I vded, sa'vent beingpreferably so plan 'l .tectgg the e lg@ at the open end thereof, i said holdexjand Stopperelement being; just ver said vent, andthcreby .effectively adapted'to gs'x'uxgly ftwithn the Outer 0nd 15 4 seaLvfr'om the air :md moistux'e, the 'interior i of thelinn'g, and a son stickcarried by said combined holder an stopper.
