CHARLES HERBERT MAY, OF BRIDGE-WATER, ENGLAND.
HAT-PIN GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 11, 1911.
Patented Oct. 17, 1911.
Serial No. 613,828.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HERBERT MAY, a subject of the King of England, residing at Bridgewater, in the county of Somerset, in the Kingdom of England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat-Pin Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hat pin guards, the object of the invention being to provide a structure of this character which, when a hat pin is thrust thereinto, will frictionally engage with the hat pin in such manner as to be effectually retained thereon and while in position will serve as a guard to prevent persons from being accidentally injured by the point of the hat pin.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the pointed end of a hat pin, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a guard adapted to be used in conjunction with said hat pin, and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of a slightly modified form of guard.
Referring to the drawing, the reference characters a, a designate the body portions of the hat pin guards. These guards have central bores 03, d. In the form of the device shown in Fig. 2, the central bore d terminates in two divergent curved passages b, b. In the form of the device shown in Fig. 3, the bore 03 terminates in divergent straight passages b. When either of these guards is thrust upon the pointed end of a hat pin, the point is deflected into one of the divergent passages to such an extent as to frictionally bind the hat pin guard upon the pin.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that simple and efficient means are herein provided for accomplishing the objects of the invention, but while the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended it is to be understood that the inven tion is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A hat-pin guard comprising a body member having a longitudinally extending passage formed therein, said passage terminating at its rear end in separate, diverging passages.
CHARLES HERBERT MAY.
