ment is selected in sucha manner that the trunn-ions' f project into the path of the arm G and that the bolt F, by a turning of the bell crank lever G G in the direction of the arrow 00 (Fig. 1) can be moved so far outwardly that its end f does not any longer project beyond the inner periphery of the body A. The arm G of the bell crank lever G G has its outer end projecting into the path of a bolt H which is axially movable in a handle a which is rigidly secured to the arm A. The bolt H is provided with a collar h over which is fitted a screw-cap a which is screwed on the handle 0!]. On the cap a is slidably arranged a bell-shaped press-piece 71. which is rigidly secured to that end of the bolt H which projects outside of the cap a A spiral spring J tends to hold the bolt H and the press-piece if in the position shown in the drawing.
After the adjusting key has been adjusted by means of the worm O, the key is inserted on the fuse in such a position that the stud a comes into engagement with the notch 6. While this takes place the bolt F is first forced back in its bearing and is subsequently brought into engagement with the notch e by the spring The adjusting key is then secured against being lifted off the fuse and it is immaterial whether the force acting to lift off the adjusting key tends to effect a displacement of the key in the direction of the axis of the projectile or whether the force tends to place the key on edge relatively to the fuse. After the key has been placed on the fuse the key is, by means of the handle a [1 turned in the direction of the arrow 1 (Fig. 2) until the latch 5 which while the key was being placed on the fuse was forced entirely back in the body A, enters the notch d in the fuse base D. The desired adjustment has then been imparted to the fuse. The bell shaped press piece 72, is then pressed downwardly until the collar h of the bolt H abuts against the handle M. This causes the bolt F to pass out of engagement with the notch e and the adjusting key can then be lifted off the fuse.
The improved securing means forpreventing the key being lifted off the fuse is simpler than the known devices of the same type. Furthermore it is directly applicable to the type of adjusting keys which is shown in the drawing and which is of very simple and compact construction.
Having thus described the. invention, what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A fuse adjusting key having setting members provided with means for coupling them to the fixed and movable parts respectively of the fuse, and a manually releasable bolt constructed to engage and cooperate with the fuse and hold the key against displacement in the direction of the axis of the fuse.
2. A fuse adjusting key having setting members provided with means for coupling them to the fixed and movableparts respectively of the fuse, a bolt movably mounted on one of said members in position to engage a part of the fuse in the direction to resist removal of the key from the fuse, and manually actuated means adapted to move said bolt, relatively to the key, out of engagement with the fuse.
4. In a fuse adjusting key adapted to be applied to the fuse by an axial movement relatively to the fuse and comprising two relatively rotatable adjusting members hav-.
ing means for coupling them to the respec tive members of the fuse, a bolt mounted on one of said adjusting members and adapted to be coupled to the adjustable fuse element and resist removal of the key from the fuse, and manually operable means adapted vto move said bolt out of engagement with the adjustable fuse element.
