UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL MORITZ ROST, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY.
TABLET-MAKING MACHINE.
Application filed April 1, 1909.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
Serial No. 487,310.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CARL MORITZ Ros'r, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Dresden, Germany, have invented `certain new and useful Improvements in Tablet-Making Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to an improved machine for working up strips `of sweetmeat, such as for instance bon-bon mass, into tablets or lozenges, and it relates more specifically to a machine which. feeds forward the introduced material, compressing it thereby more and more, stamps it and finally cuts it into tablets of uniform size.
In order to make my invention more readily understood, I will now describe it with reference to the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which- Figure l represents a side elevation, partly in section, Fig. 2 a vertical section on the line A-B of Fig. 1.
In the double frame l are arranged two endless run-ways I and II respectively, each one formed of a set of parallel rails 11 having a longitudinal groove 2 on the inner face. The run-ways converge toward the delivery end of the machine and the angle of convergence may be altered by actuating the hand wheels 3 of the screw spindle arrangement 4. Centrally of the semicircular ends of the run-ways are journaled the roller wheels 5, all four being rotated at the same angular velocity by means of the bevel gear systems 6, 7, 8.
In the endless grooves 2 travel the journal pins 10 of the dies 9, which, though forming an endless chain, are not interconnected. For reducing the travel friction, the pins 10 may be provided with loose sleeves 11, as shown in Fig. 2. To the rear face of each of the dies 9 is secured a tooth l2 adapted to coperate with the driving rollers in the wheels 5, and the front face may be provided with any suitable stamp for inscribing the tablets. Between each two dies is interposed a cutting blade 13. It is obvious that the closed chain of dies Will travel around, upon the driving gear being actuated, though the individual dies and cutting blades are not interconnected, as stated before.
The bon-bon or the like material 14 is fed in at the machine end where the run-ways are widest apart, where the dies and the cutters grip the material and advance it between them, reducing it gradually and stamping it, until it is cut at the other machine end and delivered in even sized tablets, ready for packing or direct use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a tablet making machine, a frame, two converging operating sets, each comprising parallel rails having corresponding grooves and forming a closed, endless run-way, dies traveling loosely therein, cutting means loosely interposed between the individual dies and likewise traveling in said run-ways, and means for advancing the said traveling means uniformly in the said two operating sets, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARL MORITZ ROST.
Witnesses PAUL Anims, CLRE SIMON.
