Be it known that l, WILLIAM L. HAM- nlrN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented eert'ain`11ew and useful Improvements in Rotary Printk ing-Presses, of which the following is a specification, and which are illustrated in the accom panying thereof.

The impression surface, as 16, 17, of each cylinder thereby provides a support for a. sheet, while it receives an impression from the printing surface, as 14, 15, of the other cylinder.
To provide for a repeated alternate cooperation of the printingr surface, as 14, 15, of each cylinder with the impression surface, as 16, 17, of the other cylinder, during the continued rotation of the cylinders 10, 11, the linear circumferential extent of the printinofsnrface, as 14, 15, of each cylinder is equal to the extent of the impression surtare. as 16, 17, of the other cylinder Ineasm'ed in the same Way. As the two cylinders 10, 11, are most desirably of like construction, the circumferential extent of the printing' and impression surfaces of each cylinder arc, therefore, preferal'ily equal.
For causing the two cylinders 10, 11, to cooperateV in thel manner just described. whereby two sheets are printed during each revolution of the cylinders, they are simultancously rotated in opposite directions. As shown, the cylinders are geared together by means of intel-meshing cam gears 18 and 19, mounted. reypectively, on the su V)porting shafts 12 and 13. Preferably eac of the cam gears 18, 1,9, comprises two circular portions 20 and 21 (Figr 9), the circular portion 20 being equahi i fannferential extent and of the same radius as the printing surface, as 14, 15, of the corresponding' cylinder, and the circular portion 21 of each of the gears 18, 19, being of the same circumferential extent and ofthe. saine radius as the impression surface, as 1G. 17, of the corre sponding cylinder. ',lhe circular port-ions 20 and 21 of cach of the cam `fears 18, 19, are connected by oblique gear iortions 29 and 23.

These flanges 35 correspond with the bearers usually einployed upon rotary printing presses, except that. in their peripheral outline they follow theirregular contour of the cylinders 10, 11, and of the pitehlines of the cam gears 1,3, 1D, whereby each takes the forni of a cam having circular portions and 35" of unequal diameter connected by oblique portions 35 and 35".
The cylinders 10, 11, Aare each equipped with sheet-gripping fingers 24, which eooperate with theimpression surfaces 16, 17,
of the cylinders for retaining sheets of paper thereon. These sheet-gripping fingers may be of any usual and well known construction. The cylinders 10, l1, will be snpplied with -paper to be printed alternately, and preferably this will be done from separate feed boards, Vas 29, 30. These feed boards arc shown as taking the simplest form of-construction, whereby sheets of 'paper snpportedihereon are delivered to the gripping fingers 24 of the corresponding cylinders 10, 11, 'by hand, though -obvionsly feed boards equipped with any well known form of automatically operated sheet-feeding mechanism may be employed.'
In order that the rfeed boards 29, 30, may readily coperatie 'with the grippers 24 in delivering sheets to the impression surfaces 16,
