PUMP-PISTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE Pn'rnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ferdinand, in the county of Dubois and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Pump-Piston, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a pump piston comprising 00* operating sections uniting in a novel manner to bind between them, the cup portion of the piston.
The invention is shown in a single cross sectional figure.
The piston comprises an inclosing, frusto: conical portion 27 within which fits the cylindrical portion 25 of an inclosed, lower section 26. The section 26 is extended beneath the section 27 as shown at 20, and the section 27 is provided with a depending rib 24. A flexible cup 21 is bound bet-ween the rib 24 and the portion 20 of the section 26. The sections 27 and 26 are'centrally open, a bridge 22 extending across the section 27 and a bridge 23 extending across the section 26. Upon the top 01": the section 27 rests a flexible valve 28. A. securing device, shown in the form of a bolt 29, is extended through the valve 28, through the bridges 22 and 23, and through the end of the piston rod 40, to hold the valve 28 in place, and to bind the cup 21 between the rib 24c and the extended portion 20 of the inclosed section 26. The cylindrical portion 25 of the sect-ion 26 engages peripherally with the inclined inner face of the frusto-conical section 27, to prevent undue telescoping of the parts, and to prevent the rib 24 from cutting through the cup 21.
I claim- A pump piston comprising two sections, one of which incloses a portion of the other, the inclosing section being frusto-conical, and the inclosed section being cylindrical, the inclosed section being extended beneath the inclosing. section, and the latter section having a depending rib; a flexible cup bound between the rib and the extended portion of the inclosed section; a valve upon the top of the inclosing section; and a device extended through the valve, and through both sections, to hold the valve, and to bind the cup between the rib and the extended portion of the inclosed section; the cylindrical portion engaging peripherally with the inclined inner face of the frusto-conical portion, to prevent undue telescoping of said portions, and to prevent the rib from cutting through the cup.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THEODORE PETERS.
