To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I. Jon}: E. Po'rrnn, a
citizen of the United States. residing at Hillsboro, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collapsible Boxes, of which the following is a specificat1on.. 4
This invention relates more particularly to improvements in collapsilfle boxes which are formed from a single sheet or blank of paper, card-board or other sultablc material, by folding the parts thereof into position to form the box.
One object of this intention is to provide a strong. stiff box of this character. all the parts of which, including the cover. can be readily and economically formed fronn a single rectangular blank or sheet without any wasteor loss of material and in which comparatively few cuts or incisions areand the cover closed all the parts thereof.

The blank is scored diagonally body of the box. This absence of cuts or incisions between the parts forming the body of the box adds greatly to the strength and stiffness of the box.
In folding the blank "to form the box the side and end portions are bent up at right angles to the bottom to formthe side and end walls of the box. the triangular corner portions being folded inwardly against the end walls of the-box with their ends overlapping each other, as shown in Fig. 3. Theend flaps extend below the folded corners to the bottom of the box and cover the end walls thereof. All of the parts of the box are securely held together when the cover has been closed and no glue or other securing or fastening means is required for this purpose. The box can thus be formed from the blank with ease and rapidity. I p
If desired, the overlapping ends of thefolded corners may be fastened together, but for ordinary purposes this is not necessary, as the'cover flaps, which are held in position by the pressure of thecontents of the box, will securely lock the parts-of the bodytogether.
In the modified construction shown in Fig. 7, the cover h is formed in one piece and q integral with one side of the box. Itis proyided with end flaps h h by which it is retained in engagement with the body portion of the box when closed, and has a side or front flap h which is adapted to extend into the box along the inner side of the front wall for closing the front edge of thecover. The end flaps are'held in place by the contents of the box and the end and front flaps interlock with the folded corners to hold the side and end walls in osition to form the body of the box in the same manner as in the construction first described.
I claim as my invention:
1. -A collapsible box consisting of a blank folded to form the end and side walls of the body of the box and unbroken folded corner portions which connect the end and side walls and extend into the box from the corners thereof adjacent tofthe' end walls, and
- cover portions which project toward each otherfroni the opposite side walls of the box to form a cover therefor, both of said cover portions having end flaps which are adapted to enter between said folded corner portions and the end walls of the box for positively holding the walls of the box'together and holding said cover portionsin, their closed positions, substantially as set forth.
2. A- collapsible box consisting of 9. rec-' tangular blank folded to form the end and side walls of'the body of the box and unbroken folded corner portions which connect theend and side walls and extend into the box from the corners thereof adjacent to the side walls, said corner portions forming pockets with'said end walls, and cover portions projecting toward each other from the opposite sidewalls of the box, said blanks having slits inthe opposite end portions thereof which separate the corner portions from adjacent portions of the blank to form rectangular end flaps on the cover portions, all of said slits being parallel with *the top edges of said side walls,- said'flaps being adapted to enter into the pockets between said folded corner portions and the end walls of the box for positively holding the walls of the box together andholding said cover portions in their closed positions, substantially as set forth.
