DEVELOPING-TANK.
i To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYER L. VIe'roRIUs, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Developing-Tanks, of which the following is a specification.
My invent-ion relates to daylight film tank developers and has the advantages of being compact, constructed of few parts, is easy to manipulate, is clean, and does away with unnecessary aprons or other devices. The wrapping paper on the film is also disposed of easily when drawn from the spool in the tank.
lthere an apron is used it is necessary to first wind the film and paper inside the apron in either a light proof box or a dark room, after which the film, paper and apron are transferred to the developer and the air bubbles worked out. After developing the developer is poured off, the parts are washed in water, and before the hypo bath the film must be separated from the paper and apron. This involves much handling and inconvenience owing to the presence on the apron of developer and water.
In my invention no apron is used, the act of immersing the film in the developer also disposes of the paper and when the film has been washed with water the removing of the lid permits of the easy release of the film for immersion in the hypo.
It is obvious that my invention can be made in various sizes to fit both the width and length of the usual films.
My invention is more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the drawings.

My invention consists of a tank 5 constructed of suitable material to render it light proof and water proof, the body of which is rectangular in shape with a rounded bottom and a flaring top to receive a. lid 7. A base 6 is shaped to receive the rounded bottom of the tank when it is desired to stand the device at rest. The lid 7 is provided with an arch 8 having shoulders 9 at either end, this arch being intended to receive the weight 14 which has enlarged ends 15 which fit into the shoulders 9, the shaft of the weight resting in the main body of the Specification of Letters Patent.

ln operating my device the tank is filled with developer up to a point just below the juncture of the top of the pipe 23 and the wall of the tank. The spool 16 with the negative film 17 and the wrapper 18 wound thereupon is placed in position on the holder 25 under t-he top of the lid 7, the free end of the film loop being attached to the claspv 19 and the free end of the wrapper drawn through the opening 11 in the shoulder 10. The lid is then placed on the tank and the slide 12 is swung laterally, releasing the weight 111` which drops into the film loop, the enlarged ends of the weight extending beyond the edges of the film. The wrapper 18 is then drawn through the opening 11 and the film descends into the developer in the tank, the weight 111 making the descent of the film even and regular and the enlarged ends 15 preventing the film from touching the sides of the tank. When the film has been developed the developer is drawn off through the outlet 22 and the tank is filled with water through the inlet 21 to remove therefrom all the developer on the negative. After the necessary washing the lid is removed, the film is released from the clasp and immersed in hypo is a separate vessel..
lVha-t I claim as new and desire to secure by Iietters Patent is:
l. In a device of the character described the combination of the following elements; a tank, a lid on same, a holder on said lid adapted to receive a film and wrapper, means on said lid adapted to engage with the free end of said film, means on said lid adapted to permit the withdrawal of said wrapper from said tank comprising a shoulder with an opening adapted to allow the said wrapper to pass therethrough, a weight adapted when released to carry the said film into the body of the said tank, means on said lid adapted to receive said weight, means for holding said weight in said receiving means comprising a slide pivotally attached to said lid and adapted to release said weight from said receiving means when swung from under said weight, an outlet in said tank and means adapted to carry off any overf'iow in said tank.

In adevice of the character described the combination of the following elements; a tank, a lid on same, a holder on said lid adapted to receive a film and wrapper, means on said lid adapted to engage with one end of said film comprising a clasp and support therefor, means on said lid adapted to permit the withdrawal of said wrapper from said tank comprising a shoulder with an opening adapted to allow the said wrapper to pass therethrough, a weight provided with enlarged ends and adapted when released to carry the said film into the body of the said tank, means on said lid adapted to receive said weight comprising an arch, means for holding said weight in said receiving means comprising a slide pivotally attached to said lid and adapted to release said weight from said receiving means when swung from under said weight, an outlet in said tank and means adapted to carry off any overflow in said tank.
In a device of the character described the combination of the following elements; a tank, a lid on same, a holder' on said lid adapted to receive a film and wrapper, meanson said lid adapted to engage with one end of said iilm comprising a clasp and support therefor, means on said lid adapted to permit the withdrawal of said wrapper from said tank comprising a shoulder with an opening adapted to allow the said wrap per to pass therethrough, a weight provided with enlarged ends and adapted when released to carry the said film into the body of the said tank, means on said lid adapted to receive and hold said weight comprising an arch and a slide extending thereunder, said slide being attached to said lid and adapted to release said weight from said receiving means when withdrawn from under said weight, an outlet in said tank and an overflow pipe on said tank.
