APPLIQATION FILED APR. 2o, 1908.

UNITED STATES ROBERT W. BROOKS, OF
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
PRESSER FOR GIDER-IVIILLS.
To all whom 'Lt may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT WV. BROOKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of J eiferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Presser' for Cider- Mills, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to a pressing attachment for cider mills and designed especially for use in connection with the cider mill shown and described in my application filed February 5th 1907, Serial Number 355,893.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification Figure 1 is a side view of the presser in place upon a cider mill. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail transverse section taken through the presser adjacent the pressing rollers which are shown in side elevation, supporting frame being shown in section.
In these drawings A represents the mill frame upon which is mounted a hopper A in which the grinding or crushing devices described in the application referred to are placed and B represents an operating handle. A shaft O, driven-pulley D, and rod E coperate with the driving mechanism an are also fully described in the said application. I also journal in the frame A, suitable rollers F and F in different horizontal planes and over these rollers runs a belt G which forms a downwardly traveling inclined conveyer and this belt passes between rollers H and H2. In order that the pulp delivered from the hopper may be guided to the presser rollers H and H2 and will be prevented from escaping from the side of said belt instead of passing between the rollers, I bevel away the ends of the rollers H as shown at H and provide co-acting bevel flanges H3 for the roller H2. This construction as will be clear from the drawings forms a temporary flange upon each side of the flexible belt,` adjacent the pressing rollers by bending the marginal portions of the belt as is most clearly shown in Fig. 2.
In order to drive the mechanism above de- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 20, 1908.
Patented Aug. 29, 1911.
serial No. 428,125.
scribed, I employ the handle B keyed upon the shaft B, upon which shaft is placed a sprocket wheel J over which runs a sprocket chain J2 to a sprocket wheel J t fixed upon the roller H. A second sprocket wheel J 5 is also fixed upon said roller, and a sprocket chain J G runs from the sprocket wheel J 5 to a sprocket J7 carried by the roller F. I place cog-wheels J 3 upon the stems of the rollers H and H2 in order to positively drive the roller H2 from the roller H, the latter being driven in turn by means of one of the sprocket chains. I also place a brush I upon the lower side of the conveyer which brushes from the belt any of pulp which may be carried around the lower roller F by the conveyer G. A sprocket wheel J 8 is also fixed upon the shaft B and a sprocket chain J1 runs over a sprocket wheel J 9 carried by the brush I. 'Ihe sprocket wheels J, J 4, and the chains J2 are duplicated upon opposite sides of the machine.
It will be obvious from the above that the form of gearing used for transmitting power from the shaft B to the various rollers and to the brush I is not a material part of this invention but may be changed by substituting therefor any well known arrangement of belting or gearing, as the operation of the parts is not dependent upon any particular form of gearing.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is :d
A device of the kind described comprising upper and lower pressing rollers, the upper roller having beveled end portions and the lower roller having its ends flanged to cooperate with the beveled portion of the upper roller, and a downwardly inclined belt traveling between said rollers, and having its marginal portion passing between the beveled portion and the flanges, thereby bending upwardly said marginal portions as the belt approaches and passes between the pressing rollers.
