  • My invention relates to. connectors to be used in electric circuits. 1 v It is advantageous to be able to make quick and reliable connections between cone ductors in an electric circuit and at the same time make secure conections of high efiiciency. It is further dvantageous to be able to make connections without the assistance of tools. This is particularly true on a test floor where a great deal of testing is being done. Be it known that I, EMIL MAT'I'MAN, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of- Milwaukee and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Connectors, of
which thefollowing isa full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to. connectors to be used in electric circuits. 1 v It is advantageous to be able to make quick and reliable connections between cone ductors in an electric circuit and at the same time make secure conections of high efiiciency. It is further dvantageous to be able to make connections without the assistance of tools. This is particularly true on a test floor where a great deal of testing is being done. Again, conductors used in testing may necessarily be of diiferent sizes. It is unhandy to be required to use several difi'erent terminals of different sizes in order to make connections and to complete a circuit. The object of my invention is to provide a connector having a terminal or terminals of simple construction which are arranged to cooperate with cables or conductors of difierent sizes, and which is adapted for use in circuits in which reliable connections are to be quickly made and broken without I the use of tools.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view and Fig. 2 is an end view of a connector embodying myinvention; and Figs. 3 and at are also longitudinal sectional and end views of a modification of that shown in the above mentioned figures.
My connector comprises a plurality of terminals 10, 11, and 12. One of these terminals 10 of the connector 1s provided with,
an opening 13 for the reception of ac'onductor which is to be permanently connected to said, terminal. The other terminals 11 and 12 are provided with bored holes 14:
and 15, the diameters of which decrease with the depth. These terminals 11 and 12 are preferably formed with internal stepped portions for the reception of conductors of a plurality of different sizes, and are further provided with longitudinal slots forming yielding projectionswhich firmly grip inserted conductors.

In Fig. 1 I have shown a connector in which the temporary terminals 11 and 12 are on'either side of the permanent terminal 10. In Fig. 3 I have illustrated a modi-. fication of said connector in which I have a hollow terminal 16 which is cut and internally stepped the same as terminals-11 and 12 of Fig. 1, but with the exception that this terminal is provided with four steps in a row and is 1n a direct line with a perma-' nent terminal 17 I My connector is especially applicable for test floor work but its use is not limited to this branch for it is of practical importance wherever reliable connections are to be quickly made and broken and where the conductors being used vary in size.
There may be many modifications of the precise form and arrangement herein shown and described and I aim in my claims to cover all such modifications which do not involve a departure from the spirit and scope of my invention. I
What I claim as new is 1. An article of manufacture, comprising a cable connector having a plurality of terminals, one of which is stepped and cut to form yielding projections. v I
2. An article of manufacture, comprising a cable connector having-a terminal which is provided with a stepped bored hole, all of the parts of said connector being integral.
3. An article of manufacture, comprising a cable connector having a terminal which is provided with a stepped bored hole, all of said steps having a common axis. 4:. An article of manufacture, comprising a cable connector having a terminal which is provided with a stepped bored hole, and longitudinal slots forming projections to grip inserted cables.
