Abstract

A data entry apparatus with position detector means for computer input has a panel and an array of first detector means extending along the panel. Sensing means will sense a position of an indicator that is arbitrarily positionable towards and along thepanel. The indicator then represents an interactivity with the first detector means. The sensing incorporates select a particular one of the first detector means and detect an actual transfer function thereof. By recurrent sequencing through various ones of the first detector means an actual position coordinate of the indicator is found. In particular, the sequencing starts through a subset of the first detector means that represents a probable position of the indicator means as given by past experience. The sequencing terminates upon detecting the actual position.
