Abstract

An approach is provided for content. A content manager receives an input for specifying one or more content items for a device. Next, the content manager determines to detect the device. Description

Method and apparatus for customizing device content

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for customizing the content of a mobile communication device.

Service providers and device manufacturers (eg, radios, cell phones, etc.) are continually being asked to provide value and convenience to consumers, such as providing eye-catching Internet services. A major aspect is the development of services for customized user devices, including the appearance of customized devices such as customized user interfaces and device software. However, such customized services and/or related tools often rely on a large number of user interactions, which are not only burdensome and time consuming for the user. Such a burden typically reduces the user experience associated with the customization process, and instead blocks the user from experiencing the advantages of the available customization options. Especially when a user first purchases a new device (such as a new mobile phone), it is often unwilling to take time and effort to customize the device, and rather to use the functions that the device is expected to have. Therefore, the important technical challenge faced by service providers and device manufacturers is how to make users more willing to customize and/or obtain content for users' devices.

Therefore, it is necessary to provide a method for effectively customizing the content of the device to minimize the burden on the user.

In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a method includes receiving an input to specify at least one content item for a device. The method also includes determining to detect the device. Moreover, the consumer expects that the customization should be completed at the time of sale (for example, when the user purchases the store of the device), rather than waiting until later. In addition, if the user fails to complete the customization after the purchase, it is feared that the customization is difficult in the future and it is not desirable to customize. Therefore, even if customization can provide an optimized user experience for the device, the user will continue to use uncustomized devices. Therefore, it is necessary to provide content in accordance with user preferences in order to customize the device in the simplest and most efficient manner.

To address this problem, the system 100 of FIG. 1 remotely assigns a content item to a user device, and then downloads the specific item to the user device to import the function of the customized device content. In one embodiment, system 100 receives an input specifying at least one content item for customization, transmission, and/or installation on a device. According to an embodiment, the content item may be software content (such as application software and games), media content (tablecloth image, sound), or other device-usable content. For example, the content source can be at least one service provider, content provider, network operator device manufacturer, or the like. In one embodiment, the user can specify the content item by using a web browser or other application software that can connect to the content source. According to an embodiment, the sources can transmit the specified content item from the source to the device for installation after the device becomes active (eg, powered on). Then, after detecting the device, the system 100 determines, according to the detection, that the device starts the installation of the at least one content item. The service can also transfer links that can be used to download the content items to replace the content items. After the content items are downloaded to the user equipment, the user equipment installs the content items and customizes the user equipment according to the downloaded content items.

As shown in FIG. 1, system 100 includes a user device 101 that is coupled to service 103 via communication network 105. Service 103 can communicate with user device 101 using its content manager 107. In this manner, the content manager 107 can initiate the installation of the specified content item through the user device software 109, detect the user device 101, and cause the user device software 109 to install the specified content item. The service store 111 can be used to store content items for selection for installation. And the user device storage 113 can be used to store content items received from the service 103. In an embodiment, the service may also determine the approval information for the installation through the user interface. Figure 2 is a diagram showing the construction of the content manager 107 in accordance with an embodiment. In one embodiment, the communication module 203 receives an input to specify a content item for the user device 101. The input can be transmitted to the communication module 203 of the service 103 via the input of the computer device 115. When the user device 101 can be connected through the communication network, the communication module 203 can detect the user device 101. The input of the specified content item is transmitted to the content module 205. Figure 3 is a flow diagram showing the process of customizing the contents of a device in accordance with an embodiment. In one embodiment, the content manager 107 executes the process 300 and is implemented by a chip set including a processor and a memory as shown in FIG. In step 301, the content manager 107 receives an input to specify a content item for a device (e.g., user device 101). Content items may include, for example, themes, wallpapers, color sounds, or other types of materials that may be used to customize the device. This input is received by one of the devices on the device for sale, a launch, and/or a remote management event. For example, the user can use computer device 115 to send an input of a specified content item. The computer device 115 can be located at a store of the vending device or at a kiosk supporting the user device 101. In this embodiment, the user can customize the device remotely from the computer device 115 by selecting the content item instead of performing customization directly on the device. This input can be sent to another device, such as computer device 115, through a user interface provided by content manager 107. The user interface can display available content items for selection, and the user can interact with the user interface to specify content items for the device. In one example, the user interface can be a web interface that can utilize the performance of the web browser of the computer application software 117 for contempt.

Moreover, the content manager 107 can determine to request approval of the installation of the specified content item through the user interface. For example, the content manager 107 can present approval information on the user interface displayed on the computer device 115, and the user can despise the approval information. In one example, prior to the specified content item, the user device 101 is powered on and becomes active via the communication network 105. Therefore, the content manager 107 receives input specifying the content items, and the specified content items can be transmitted to the user device 101. If the content items are specified in advance, the content item is transmitted to the user device 101 until the user turns on the user device 101 and validates the user device 101 through the network.

Activation of the installation may include determining that the content item is delivered from the service 103 to the device (e.g., user device 101). When the content items are transferred to the device, the installation of the content items can be performed on the device. The activation of the installation also includes the transfer of the content items from the service 103 to the device (e.g., user device 101). Then, it is triggered that the content items can be finally obtained through the connection, and the content items obtained by the device are installed. Based on the characteristics of the content items, the content manager 107 can determine whether to transfer the content items from the service 103 or to self-service the connection of the content items. Such characteristics of the content item may include the file size and type of the content item and the prioritization of the content item. In one embodiment, the content manager 107 executes the process 400 and is implemented by a chip set including a processor and a memory as shown in FIG. In step 401, the content manager 107 decides to create an account linked to the device (ie, the user device 101). For example, the user can create an account by using the computer application software 117 of the user interface of the display service 103. The information provided by the user in the creation account can be stored in the service 103. When the user provides information about the user device 101, the user interface can provide content items that are specifically available to the user device 101. This helps users specify content items that are compatible with the device. In step 403, the content manager 107 determines to link the content items to the account linked to the device. When the content item is linked to the account, the activation of the account may trigger the installation of the content items on the device side. Therefore, in step 405, the content manager 107 receives the notification that the account becomes valid through a network, and then in step 407, the content manager 107 identifies the receipt of the notification as detection of the device. For example, when the user turns on the user device 101, the user device 101 logs into the account and becomes active through the network. The detection of this account can be considered as detection of this user device 101. In this way, the detection of the valid account can initiate the installation of the content items.

The advantage of this process is that it provides a way to maintain a user account, provide a simple selection of content items for its devices, and facilitate device detection based on the detection of valid user accounts over the network.

Figure 5 is a schematic diagram showing the complete process of customizing the contents of a device in accordance with an embodiment. The diagram 500 shows the interaction between the content service 501 and the user interface 503, the service account 505, the user device 507, and the push service 509, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. The content service 501 and the user device 507 are equivalent to the service 103 and the user device 101 in FIG. In step A 511, after the user purchases the user device, the user can use the content service 501 to present to the user interface 503 of the store computer, for example, to specify that the content item is installed on the user device 507. In step B513, the user can create a user account in the service 501 by using the user interface 503, and log in to the user account 505. The header portion 601 also shows that the web interface 600 is logged in as the user ID JSH 337 and also has a logout option 603. The page name portion 605 indicates that the page displayed by the current web interface is the home page.
