Abstract

A method and a device for treating wastewater with a view to precipitating impurities are disclosed. The device (3) comprises a chamber (6) having an inlet (4) for the wastewater, an outlet (5) for the wastewater, electrodes (7, 8) arranged between the inlet and the outlet, manganese ore (MnO2) (9) placed between the inlet and the electrodes, a pump device (1) for feeding the wastewater between the inlet and the outlet, and a current source for applying a direct voltage of about 10-50 V, preferably about 24 V, to the electrodes at a current of about 20-60 A, an oxygen-containing gas being percolated between the electrodes (7, 8). In the method, the wastewater is conducted between the electrodes (7, 8), whereupon the precipitated impurities are separated, preferably in a sedimentation basin (12).
