Abstract
A supplementary, independent air-feeding valve 12 is provided in each cylinder, the valve being operated by a cam 36 so as to be opened towards the end of the power stroke. In an engine with fuel injection the compressed air from one cylinder on its compression stroke may be fed through the supplementary valve (45, Fig. 5) to a storage tank and from the tank to another cylinder during its power stroke. A further valve (77. Fig. 5) may be provided in the flow path from the supplementary valve to the tank. <IMAGE>
