Abstract

A spring-activated parking brake for a rail vehicle includes a pressure spring (4) working in a break-activating direction on a piston (2) which is connected to a spindle (7) with a nut (13) in non-self limiting engagement with this. This nut can be coupled to a regulator sleeve (16), which is rotational with a worm gear (18, 19). In order to allow not only manual return of the piston (2) by means of the described device but also an automatic return of the actuator in return of pressurized air for its control with a visual indication of the actuator's condition a coupling plate (12) connectable to the nut (13) is positioned in an axially moveable fashion in the regulator sleeve (16) and is connected with a cup (9) which works to seal with a plunger (8) at the end of the spindle (7). The plunger and the cup form a cavity (10) in fluid connection with the chamber (5) via a canal (11) in the spindle.<IMAGE>
