Abstract
1418833 Heterocylic zinc carbodithioates PENNWALT CORP 31 May 1973 [5 June 1972 30 April 1973] 26039/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds of formula where X is S or O; R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are each H, C 1 -C 8 alkyl, -CCl 3 , phenyl or phenyl substituted by one or more of NH 2 , NHR<SP>4</SP>, NR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>, OH, OR<SP>4</SP> and Cl, where R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each C 1 -C 8 alkyl; C 5 H 5 N is pyridine and n is 0-5, are prepared by reacting an oxazolidine or thiazolidine of formula with CS 2 and zinc acetate at 0-75‹ C., generally in the presence of pyridine or other base. The pyridine may be removed from products in which n is greater than 0 by heating. In some cases the starting material may be used in a tautomeric open chain form containing the -CH=NCH 2 CH 2 OH group. Alternatively the CS 2 and zinc acetate may be reacting with an alkanolamine and a source of formaldehyde. The products are used for vulcanizing elastomers. The compounds are similarly prepared. Formaldehyde is reacted with ethanolamine to give 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyethyl)hexalhydro-1,3,- 5-triazine which is pyrolyzed to give oxazolidine. # - (3 - Ethoxy - 4 - hydroxybenyzlideneamino)ethanol (tautomeric with 2-(3-ethoxy-4- hydroxyphenyl)oxazolidine) # - (benzylideneamino)ethanol (tautomeric with 2 - phenyloxazolidine), and # - (4 - chlorobenzylideneamino)- ethanol (tautomeric with 2 - (4 - chlorophenyl)oxazolidine) and # - (2 - ethylhexylideneimino)-ethanol (tautomeric with 2 - (3 - heptyl) oxazolidine) are prepared from ethanolamine and the appropriate aldehyde. 5 - Methyl - 2 - trichloromethyloxazolidine is obtained from 1-amino-2-propanol and chloral and 5-phenyl-2-trichloromethyloxazolidine from 2-amino-1-phenylethanol and chloral.
