Abstract

1529455 Plasma etc. spray producers UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORP 7 Oct 1975 [7 Oct 1974] 41015/75 Heading B2F A nozzle extension assembly 2, suitable for use with a known plasma spray gun 6 utilising helium, comprises a finned copper member 8 cooperating with a steel jacket 14 to provide a water cooling chamber arranged to cool substantially the hot plasma passing through a tapered conduit 10, and at least one powder inlet port such as 40, 42 arranged to inject powder into the cooled gas stream of the plasma to provide sufficient residence time to plasticize the powder, with-- out rendering the particles thereof molten, and impart a high velocity thereto. The use of a particular port depends upon the powder being used, said powder being introduced in an inert carrier gas. A port such as 40, may be used for the admission of a temperature-modifying gas. One or more ports may be used for differing powders which are to be sprayed concurrently or sequentially, or for the same powder. Water enters the jacket at 16 and leaves at 18.
