Abstract

1,025,826. Snap hinges. H. WOLF. March 19, 1964 [March 20, 1963], No. 11568/64. Heading E2F. A snap hinge of resilient polypropylene material formed by an injection moulding process comprises two hinge plates 1 and 2 pivotably connected by thin strips of material 20, 21 and two arms 16, 19 which extend from plates 1 and 2 respectively and are pivotably connected at 17 along a line which is offset by the distance 9 from the pivot axis of the plates 1, 2. On folding the hinge, the end 17 of the arm 16 is first deflected towards the pivot axis of the plates 1 and 2 and on further folding, due to the resilency of the arm 16 is sprung away from said axis with the result that the hinge is either snapped to the fully extended or closed position when freed. Figs. 1-3 (not shown) show a snap hinge having rigid links and serve to illustrate the principle of the snap hinge of the invention.
