Стол - тумба содержит столешницу, размещенную на противолежащих друг другу плоских стенках, и полку, при этом стенки соединены между собой, по меньшей мере, одним поперечным экраном, образующим опору для полки, а высота поперечного экрана составляет от 40 до 60% расстояния от нижнего края стенок до нижней поверхности полки. Столешница с одной из сторон может быть выполнена криволинейной.
