Description

The present invention relates to new EPS containers (polystyrene foam containers) of the type indicated in the restrictive part of claim 1 of the claims.

State of the art

Food products, especially fresh fish, are often transported in EPS containers (i.e. expanded polystyrene containers). Transporting in EPS containers is the most inexpensive and efficient way to transport fish. Such a container is lightweight, functional, hygienic, durable and can be adapted to a European cargo pallet. The fish is placed in a container along with ice, possibly absorbent, and at the final stage, a cover made of polystyrene foam is installed on the container and fixed with (fastening) straps. Such containers containing a lid and straps are well known in the relevant field of technology, for example Bewi AS containers for air transportation.

During transport, most of the ice is melted and to prevent the likelihood of food being in the water, which could have a negative impact on quality, most EPS containers are provided with drainage holes, whereby excess water can be drained. During prolonged transport, water thus flows from containers and from a vehicle such as a trailer. This water is mixed with liquids from fish, and therefore removal is difficult. Alternatively, it is necessary to use a sufficient amount of absorbents, as is done for transportation by plane.

Контейнеры также должны быть достаточно крепкими для возможной установки в штабель и обеспечивать возможность перемещения и обработки без опасности развала (штабеля).Filling containers with ice instead of food is very disadvantageous and makes transportation more expensive. You can also use dry ice instead of water ice, but dry ice is more expensive and should not be in direct contact with food. An alternative to using EPS-containers with ice should be the use of other containers and the use of other methods of cooling during the whole time of transportation. The containers should also be strong enough for possible installation in a stack and provide the ability to move and handle without the risk of collapse (stacks).

Many different types of trays or small containers of extruded polystyrene XPS material are known, for example, from Japanese patent JP 7060922. The XPS material is produced in the form of flat plates, and the extruded polystyrene tray (XPS) is made by stamping the trays from such an extruded plate polystyrene (XPS). To perform the stamping process, the plate must be relatively thin and thus it is not possible to fabricate a container from extruded polystyrene (XPS) material having sufficient strength. Thin walls do not provide sufficient thermal insulation, and trays made of extruded polystyrene (XPS) material must therefore be cooled from the outside.

Object of the invention

Еще одна задача заключается в том, что контейнеры должны обеспечивать лучшие возможности для маркировки (товара).The main objective is that the EPS containers of the invention should be lighter and have an external volume less than known EPS containers having the same internal volume. Another objective is that the containers must be air- and moisture-proof in order to allow the regulation of the internal environment. Another objective is that containers should provide the best opportunities for labeling (product).

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

These tasks are solved by the EPS container in accordance with the distinctive parts of paragraphs 1 and 7 of the claims. Other preferred features are set forth in the dependent claims.

The invention relates to a container containing side walls and a bottom made of polystyrene foam, in which the traditional cover made of polystyrene foam is replaced by a plastic film attached directly to the EPS container. By using this film, a significant reduction in volume and weight is provided, and if desired, it is possible to obtain a container that is impervious to liquid and / or gas. The use of a transparent plastic film also makes it easier for the end user to inspect the contents of the container, since there is no longer any need to open it to allow inspection of its contents. The film also provides a good opportunity for marking, because it can be printed directly on plastic film. Direct printing on polystyrene foam is possible, but the result is often not high enough and this leads to a lot of damage. An alternative is to use labels, but this involves additional costs and work.

An adhesive is used to attach the plastic film to the EPS container. Even if it is not intended to directly contact this adhesive with the contents of the container, it is still preferable to use an adhesive approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for indirect contact with food. The adhesive should adhere well to the expanded polystyrene and preferably have a lower melting point than the expanded polystyrene so that the expanded polystyrene does not undergo deformation or melting when using the adhesive. When the polystyrene foam is melted, a gas is released from styrene, and the gas from styrene is possibly harmful to humans.

40%.By “bonding” in this application is meant the use of adhesive / adhesive for bonding two parts, one to the other with the possibility of separation or for a long period. By "adhesive" is meant any type of bonding agent that is suitable for bonding two parts, one to the other with the possibility of separation or for a long period. Various types of adhesives can be used, preferably adhesives applied in one step and reactive in another step, for example adhesives activated by temperature, pressure, ultrasound or ultraviolet light. Adhesives applied in one step and cured in another can also be used. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, plastic may first be applied to the EPS container, and when a plastic film is applied, this film is welded to the plastic already applied to the EPS container. Of course, it is assumed that the plastic deposited on an EPS container exhibits adhesion to expanded polystyrene and does not detach during welding. A preferred example of a heat-reactive adhesive is ethylene vinyl acetate (CAS # 24937-78-8, also known as EVA). This is a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene, in which the mass fraction of vinyl acetate usually ranges between 10 and 40%.

In a particularly preferred embodiment, the adhesive is applied immediately after manufacture of the container in a dry, controlled environment. The adhesive can also be applied after putting the contents of the container in place, but in this case, water, ice or other elements could prevent optimal adhesion between the adhesive and polystyrene foam. After the contents are placed in the container, the adhesive must be reactivated and a plastic film attached. If the adhesive characteristic provides this capability, it can also be pressed into a styrofoam container during manufacture.

In an alternative embodiment, the upper edge of the side walls of the EPS container is made with a horizontal peripheral recess where the adhesive is placed so that the contact surface between the expanded polystyrene and the adhesive is as large as possible, without changing the wall thickness.

Plastic film placed as a lid on a container of expanded polystyrene must also be approved for use with food products, moreover, suitable for adhesive. The plastic film is preferably gas impermeable and should have a high tensile strength, for example, approximately 13 MPa. In addition, it is assumed that the film adheres well to the adhesive and that its properties do not change during the reactivation or hardening of the adhesive; for example, it should have a melting point higher than the reactivation temperature of the adhesive in cases in which reactivation by heating is necessary. To ensure satisfactory performance, it may be preferable to use a plastic film containing several layers of a laminate (laminate). In addition, it is preferable to enable printing directly on a plastic film, possibly on one of the layers, if a laminate is used, and this is done without spreading.

The invention also comprises a method of manufacturing a container as described above, comprising the steps of:

формования контейнера (1), содержащего боковые стенки и днище из пенополистирола, обычным способом;molding the container (1) containing the side walls and the bottom of polystyrene foam, in the usual way;

нанесения адгезива на верхний край боковых стенок;applying adhesive to the upper edge of the side walls;

покрытия контейнера пластиковой пленкой (5) и направления ее вниз, по меньшей мере, пока не будет обеспечен контакт с адгезивом.covering the container with plastic film (5) and pointing it down, at least until contact with the adhesive is ensured.

The container is filled with the required contents after molding or preferably after application of the adhesive.

The method also comprises the step of reactivating the adhesive after it is applied to the container, and it is most preferable to reactivate it after applying the plastic film to the box in such a way that the adhesive is reactivated through the plastic film. Finally, the advantage is that the plastic film is directed down to contact with the adhesive, and then until contact is made with the top edge of the container.

By using the EPS containers of the invention, weight reduction and volume reduction are provided. Compared to using traditional containers, this brings a significant reduction in transportation costs. When it is also possible to provide a fully gas-tight container, the fish can be packaged in a controlled gas environment, and this offers new methods for packaging and transporting fresh fish. For example, reducing the amount of ice contributes to a significant reduction in transportation costs.

By replacing the lid with plastic film, the lower side of the base and the upper part of the side walls and / or the upper edge can be made with appropriate designs so that the floor of the adjacent container when installed on the upper part will function as an insulating cover. This leads to a further decrease in the external volume of the container and makes it possible to stack more containers in a stack in height without increasing the external dimensions of the pallet. This further reduces transportation costs.

ПримерExample

The invention is described below by way of example in which a container comprising side walls and a polystyrene foam bottom is provided with a plastic film lid and where a plurality of containers are placed in a pallet. An example is shown in the attached drawings, in which:

фиг.1 отображает контейнер, содержащий боковые стенки и днище из пенополистирола, при этом адгезив наносят на верхний край боковых стенок;figure 1 shows a container containing side walls and a bottom made of polystyrene foam, with the adhesive applied to the upper edge of the side walls;

фиг.la отображает элемент на фиг.1 в увеличенном масштабе, где выемка, содержащая адгезив, показана подробно;Fig. la displays an element in Fig. 1 on an enlarged scale, where a recess containing an adhesive is shown in detail;

фиг.2 отображает контейнер на фиг.1, содержащий приклеенную на место пластиковую пленку; иfigure 2 displays the container of figure 1, containing glued into place a plastic film; and

фиг.3 отображает поддон контейнеров по изобретению, причем в сравнении с поддоном традиционных контейнеров.figure 3 displays a pallet of containers according to the invention, and in comparison with a pallet of traditional containers.

Верхние края контейнера, кроме того, выполнены с внешней кромкой 3, выступающей с участками, которые являются расположенными оппозитно относительно выемок/пазов 4 на нижней стороне контейнера, таким образом, что контейнеры могут быть ровно установлены в штабель вверх (один на другой).Figure 1 shows a fish container 1 containing a side wall and a bottom made of polystyrene foam (in this embodiment, expanded polystyrene having a melting point of 103 ° C is used), which is designed to allow the use of a plastic film as a cover instead of a traditional expanded polystyrene cover. The container is designed with a horizontal recess at the upper edge of the sides of the container, where the recess is designed to provide a bearing surface for the adhesive. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, and as shown in detail in FIG. La, adhesive 2 is placed in a recess. The upper edges of the container, in addition, are made with an outer edge 3, protruding from areas that are located opposite to the recesses / grooves 4 on the lower side of the container, so that the containers can be evenly stacked up (one on top of the other).

In a particular preferred embodiment, an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) adhesive, for example Krystal Lim FDA 105, is placed in the recess 2 at a temperature at which the adhesive is liquid or semi-solid, but with a melting point for polystyrene foam. When using Krystal Lim FDA 105 adhesive, this occurs at a temperature of approximately 70 ° C. Once the adhesive has been applied, the container 1 is cooled and transported to a work site where fish and ice are placed in a container. When the desired content is placed in a container, a plastic film 5, for example a 40 micron thick two-layer film of polyethylene (PE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) film, in which the ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) layer is facing the adhesive, is placed on the container and directed down to the top side of the container until the plastic comes in contact with the adhesive. The adhesive is then reactivated, preferably by heating, with a temperature higher than the melting point for the adhesive, but lower than the melting point for expanded polystyrene. Reactivation of the adhesive, for example, can be performed using a frame that is lowered onto a plastic film and heats the adhesive through it. In embodiments where the adhesive is FDA Krystal 105 adhesive, the frame may have a temperature of 80 ° C. The frame should be the same shape as adhesive 2, but it can preferably be narrower in order to avoid direct contact between the heated frame and the EPS container.

2.While the adhesive undergoes reactivation, the film 5 is lowered further, and preferably until the film comes into contact with the upper edges of the container so that it adheres to the EPS container. A container with such installed plastic film is shown in FIG.

There are several devices in the known art for fixing plastic films as a cover for trays of other materials, for example plastic trays, preferably by making a laminate of plastic layers. With small devices, these devices can also be used to fasten a plastic film to the container of the invention, which is obvious to a person skilled in the art.

The savings when using plastic films 5 instead of traditional polystyrene foam covers 6 are significant. A traditional lid weighs 200 grams, and a plastic film with an adhesive according to the above example weighs about 15 g. The reduction in weight per container, therefore, is about 185 g and per pallet (24 containers) 24x185 g, i.e. 4440 g. However, for to ensure that there is no hole in the lid of the upper containers and to prevent loss of cold, it is preferable that the uppermost layer has, in addition, traditional layers, and thus a decrease of one pallet is (24-3) x185 g = 3840 g. In addition, the weight of the containers themselves is ensured thanks to a new design containing protrusions and grooves.

The lid increases the height of the container by approximately 2 cm, and the decrease in volume by one pallet (8 containers, one on top of the other) is thus 7x2 cm = 14 cm. However, when the containers are also made with protrusions on the upper edge and opposite grooves on the bottom side of the bottom, the containers can be stacked more tightly than before, and the reduction in the total volume in the presence of containers according to the present invention, as shown in figure 3, is 23.9 cm or approximately 230 liters.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown and described above. The figures and example are presented only to illustrate an embodiment, and any circumstances should not be interpreted as limitations of the invention, as defined by the attached claims.
