Abstract

FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: method to measure a pitch angle and a radio navigation system for its implementation consists in the fact that from a point with available coordinates they radiate horizontally linearly-polarised electromagnetic waves, a vector of intensity of electric field of which is located in the horizontal plane. On board of the aircraft they perform a side acceptance of electromagnetic waves relative to direction of aircraft motion in a circular polarisation basis, they measure difference of phases between orthogonally polarised components along the circle of the left and right directions of electric field vector rotation, and by measured difference of phases they determine the pitch angle between the longitudinal axis of the aircraft and horizontal plane.
EFFECT: elimination of continuous accumulation with the course of time of a measurement error and insensitivity to overloads, which arise in case of a non-stationary flight mode.

Description

The invention relates to radio navigation and can be used in flight navigation systems for the orientation of the aircraft (LA) when approaching instruments.

[2].Known methods and devices for measuring the pitch angle of an aircraft are based on the use of inertial navigation systems, in particular gyroscopic orientation systems [1-4]. A number of disadvantages are inherent in such measurement methods and devices implementing them. First, over time, there is a constant accumulation of measurement errors and for one hour of flight it is a unit of degrees [2, 3]. Secondly, if the aircraft develops significant overloads, then there is an increase in the gyroscope’s own precession rate, which in some cases can lead to a complete loss of its operability [2].

Since the known methods for measuring the pitch angle of an aircraft and the devices realizing them are based on a different physical principle, in comparison with the claimed one, they cannot be considered as analogues, since they do not have common features.

The essence of the proposed method for measuring the pitch angle of an aircraft is as follows.

YOX.From a point with known coordinates radiate horizontally linearly polarized electromagnetic waves, the electric field vector

which coincides with the horizontal plane (horizon plane) and also coincides with the positive direction of the axis OX lying in this plane, and together with the axis OY perpendicular to the horizontal plane, form a fixed rectangular coordinate system YOX.

Figure 00000005
. После чего измеряют разность фаз между ними ΔφLRLR и по измеренной разности фаз ΔφLR рассчитывают угол тангажа ξ ЛА между продольной осью ЛА и горизонтальной плоскостью (плоскостью горизонта).Onboard the aircraft, the receiving antenna, the axis of symmetry of the radiation pattern of which is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the aircraft, carries out lateral reception of electromagnetic waves in a circular orthogonal in-phase polarization basis, where the received electromagnetic waves are divided (decomposed) into two components of the left orthogonally polarized in a circle E ˙ L
Figure 00000003
and right E ˙ R
Figure 00000004
directions of rotation of the electric field vector E ˙
Figure 00000005
. After that, the phase difference between them is measured Δφ LR = φ L- φ R and the pitch angle ξ of the aircraft between the longitudinal axis of the aircraft and the horizontal plane (horizon plane) is calculated from the measured phase difference Δφ LR .

and pitch angle ξ of the aircraft.

To establish this connection, we use the well-known [5–7] formalism of vectors and Jones matrices.

Figure 00000008
Since the reception of electromagnetic waves on board an aircraft is carried out in its own circular polarizing basis, where the received electromagnetic waves are divided into two circularly polarized waves with the opposite direction of rotation, let us visualize the radiated horizontally linearly polarized electromagnetic wave in a linear orthogonal polarizing basis, unit vectors (vectors ) [ e x , e y ]

which coincide respectively with the axes OX and OY of the stationary Cartesian rectangular coordinate system YOX, in the form of the sum of such waves. Then we get:

E ˙ = [ E ˙ x E ˙ y ] e j ϖ t = [ E m x 2 e j ϖ t E m x 2 e j ( ϖ t π 2 ) ] + [ E m x 2 e j ϖ t E m x 2 e j ( ϖ t + π 2 ) ] , ( 1 )

Then the Jones vector of the received horizontally linearly polarized electromagnetic wave (2), defined by its projections in a linear polarization basis, the sum of two waves polarized in a circle with the opposite direction of rotation of the electric field vector, can be determined on board the aircraft with negative -ξ or positive + ξ pitch, when switching to a circular in-phase orthogonal polarization basis, at the receiver input in the form:

7.The radio navigation system comprises a transmitter 1 and a transmitting antenna 2 located at a point with known coordinates. On board the aircraft, the radionavigation system includes a receiving antenna 3, a circular waveguide section with a quarter-wave phase plate 4 built inward, a linear polarizing separator 5, a phase angular discriminator 6, and an indicator 7.

11.Figure 2 presents the structural electric diagram of the phase angular discriminator 6, which includes the first and second frequency mixers 8 and 12, the first intermediate frequency amplifier (IFA) with an amplitude limit of 9, local oscillator 10, phase shifter 90 ° 13, the second intermediate amplifier frequency (IFA) with a limit on the amplitude of 14 and a phase detector 11.

The radio navigation system operates as follows.

Figure 00000043
Figure 00000008
The transmitter 1 through a transmitting antenna 2 with a horizontal intrinsic polarization emits horizontally linearly polarized electromagnetic waves in the direction of the aircraft, the electric field vector E
Figure 00000043
which coincides with the horizontal plane (horizon plane) and is defined by its projections in a linear orthogonal polarization basis by the sum of two waves orthogonally polarized in a circle in the form (2). Moreover, unit unit vectors (vectors) [ e x , e y ]
Figure 00000008
linear orthogonal polarization basis coincide with the horizontal plane and perpendicular to this plane, respectively.

On board the aircraft, the receiving antenna 3, the axis of symmetry of the radiation pattern of which is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the aircraft, receives electromagnetic waves, the Jones vector of which has the form (2), after which the signal is fed to the serially connected section of the circular waveguide with a quarter-wave phase plate 4 built inward and a linear polarizing the separator 5, made in the form of a transition from a circular waveguide to two rectangular waveguides orthogonally located relative to each other, the unit vectors of their own coordinate system INAT which coincide with the axes of the rectangular waveguide arms and also coincide with the vertical and longitudinal axes LA, respectively. Moreover, the quarter-wave phase plate is oriented at an angle θ = -45 ° to one of the walls of the rectangular waveguide of the linear polarizing separator 5. The combination of the circular waveguide section with the quarter-wave phase plate 4 built inward and the linear polarizing separator 5 allows, as is known [7, 8], on board the aircraft, the reception of electromagnetic waves in a circular polarizing basis and, thus, to divide the electromagnetic waves arriving at the input, the Jones vector of which is given in the form (2), into two orthogonal yarizovannye circular components of the left E L

respectively. In this case, the signals at the outputs of the arms of the linear polarizing separator 5 are determined using transformations of the form:

Figure 00000067

It is appropriate to explain the essence of the obtained expressions (25) and (26). For this, we turn to relation (2), from which it follows that the Jones vector E ˙

Figure 00000070
and E ˙ R
Figure 00000069
at the output of the section, as is known [7, 8], they are transformed into linearly orthogonal-polarized waves E ˙ x

with horizontal and vertical polarizations, respectively, and have, taking into account (23) and (24), in vector form the form:

E ˙ x = 1 2 [ ( cos ξ + sin ξ ) + j ( cos ξ sin ξ ) 0 ] , ( 27 )

Figure 00000071
E ˙ x = one 2 [ ( cos ξ + sin ξ ) + j ( cos ξ - sin ξ ) 0 ] , ( 27 )

E ˙ y = 1 2 [ 0 ( cos ξ + sin ξ ) + j ( cos ξ sin ξ ) ] . ( 28 )

Figure 00000072
E ˙ y = one 2 [ 0 - ( cos ξ + sin ξ ) + j ( cos ξ - sin ξ ) ] . ( 28 )
Figure 00000072

Figure 00000063
и E ˙ y
Figure 00000064
Figure 00000070
и E ˙ R
Figure 00000069
Thus, at the outputs of the linear polarizing separator 5, orthogonally linearly polarized signals are formed having the form (25) and (26). Moreover, as is known [7, 8], the amplitudes A x and A y , as well as the phases φ x and φ y of these orthogonally linearly polarized components E ˙ x
Figure 00000063
and E ˙ y
Figure 00000064
will be characterized by the amplitudes A L and A R , as well as the phases φ L and φ R of the components orthogonally polarized in a circle E ˙ L

respectively.

from the output of the first frequency mixer 8 is fed to the input of the first amplifier with a limit in amplitude of 9, and the signal E ˙ y
Figure 00000074
from the output of the second frequency mixer 12 through a phase-shifting circuit 90 ° 13 is fed to the input of the second amplifier with a limit of amplitude 14. In the amplifiers 9 and 14, which have identical amplitude-phase-frequency characteristics, the signals of the intermediate frequency are amplified, and they are also normalized by amplitude limitation of amplified signals of intermediate frequency with a limiting threshold of U 0 . Then, the output signal of the amplifier 9 is supplied to the first input of the phase detector 11, and the output signal of the amplifier 14 is fed to the second input of the phase detector 11. At the output of the phase detector 11, a signal is generated proportional to the sine of the phase difference Δφ xy = φ xy of the input signals, and has the form:

S ( ξ ) = U 0 sin ( ϕ x ϕ y ) , ( 44 )

или с учетом (43) имеет вид:or taking into account (43) it has the form:

S ( ξ ) = U 0 sin ( ± 2 ξ ) , ( 45 )

S ( ξ ) = U 0 sin ( ± 2 ξ ) , ( 45 )
Figure 00000091

где U0=const.where U 0 = const.

From the output of the phase detector 11, the signal is fed to the input of the indicator 7 (see Fig. 1), the scale of which is calibrated taking into account (45) in degrees of the pitch angle ξ of the aircraft.

In the 3 cm wavelength range of the claimed radio navigation system for measuring the pitch angle of an aircraft can be performed as follows.

[7].Linear polarizing separator 5 is made in the form of a waveguide of circular cross section with the transition to two orthogonally located waveguides of rectangular cross section [7].

The phase angular discriminator can be performed according to the known scheme [11] of a phase-phase single-pulse system.

Indicator 7 can be made in the form of a pointer device, the scale of which is calibrated in degrees of the pitch angle of the aircraft.

Compared with the widely used means of measuring the pitch angle of an aircraft, based on the use of gyroscopic orientation systems, the inventive method and the radio navigation system for measuring the pitch angle of an aircraft allow to exclude the constant accumulation of measurement errors over time.
