Abstract

FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves introduction of steam or gas of fissionable material and gas cooler into magnetic trap (reactor core). As soon as desired density of fissionable material is attained, high-energy protons are brought in and revolved within core thereby initiating nuclear reactions accompanied by emission of fast neutrons; the latter are passed through moderator arranged around reactor core and escape the latter in the form of thermal neutrons conveyed to reactor core. High-energy protons also ionize fissionable material and gas cooler which are set in rotary motion under the action of cross-linked electric and magnetic fields about longitudinal axis of reactor at speed ensuring resonant-dynamic thermal fission of fissionable material. In the process continuously fed gas cooler is passed under the action of centrifugal force through fissionable material nuclei, cools them down, reduces degree of their ionization, and also takes bulk of energy of high-energy fission fragments and is discharged together with them from reactor core through magnetic-trap escape cone. Energy released in reactor core is controlled by varying energy of high-energy proton beam. Upon completing resonant-dynamic fission condition may be changed by changing density of fissionable material to cease supply of high-energy protons while resonant-dynamic fission still goes on. When this is the case, fission energy released in reactor core will be controlled by fissionable material speed and density. In addition high-energy fission fragments formed in the process heat up heavy hydrogen protons to thermonuclear fusion temperature. Original nuclei of fusion reaction may be used as gas cooler. EFFECT: enhanced amount of energy generated, improved density of thermal neutrons in reactor core, and reduced critical density of fissional material nuclei. 3 dwg, 1 tbl

Description

The invention relates to the field of nuclear technology and is intended for the implementation of a nuclear chain reaction of resonant-dynamic (RD) fission of fissile material with additional neutrons obtained from high-energy protons (VP).

д. It can be used to generate heat, electricity and light energy; as propulsion systems for spaceships, air, ground, surface and underwater transport systems; desalination of sea water; transition to environmentally friendly hydrogen energy, etc.

1995. The prototype is "Method for irradiating fissile matter with monoenergetic neutrons", RF patent N 2087042 with priority dated July 12, 1995.

The prototype shows the conditions for stationary joint reactions of the RD of fission of fissile material by monoenergetic - thermal neutrons (TH) and fusion reactions.

The disadvantage of the prototype is that additional neutrons for the nuclear fission chain reaction of fission are obtained from thermonuclear reactions, the ignition of which is currently a very difficult task.

Another disadvantage is that the relatively easily ignited D-T fusion reaction emits neutrons with an energy of 14 MeV, which cause strong activation of structural materials of the reactor core (AZ).

The problem is achieved due to the fact that in the method of irradiating the fissile material with monoenergetic neutrons, which consists in the fact that the fissile material is ionized and moved by rotation in the VT field under the action of crossed electric and magnetic fields with the speed of their resonant fission during collision with VTs included in the AZ - a magnetic trap for the reactor from the surrounding moderator. Moreover, the high-energy fission fragments formed during fission heat up heavy hydrogen isotopes to the temperature of thermonuclear fusion, and the fast neutrons emitted during thermonuclear fusion, like fission BNs, fall into the moderator, slow down, and return to the AZ in the form of VTs and, thus, reduce the critical mass of fissile material.

First, a fissile material and a cooling gas, for example helium, are introduced into the magnetic trap — the reactor core. Then, after reaching the predetermined density of the nuclei of the fissile material, the VP is introduced into the magnetic trap while continuing to introduce the cooler, and under the influence of the magnetic field of the trap, they are rotated inside it, thereby causing them to pass through the nuclei of the fissile material and initiate nuclear reactions in them, such as : fission, inelastic interaction, excitation of nuclei, etc. with the emission of BN. BNs born from these reactions are sent to a moderator and slow them down to thermal energies, after which the obtained VTs are sent inside a magnetic trap.

д. ). In addition to generating BN and VP, the nuclei of fissile matter and helium ionize, after which, under the influence of the crossed electric and magnetic fields, the traps begin to rotate inside it with a drift velocity, which ensures RD fission of the fissile material upon collision with the VT. In this case, the gas cooler under the action of centrifugation passes through the nuclei of fissile material, cools them, reduces the degree of ionization, and also takes the majority of the energy of high-energy fission fragments, after which it, together with fission fragments, is removed through the loss cone of the magnetic trap along its magnetic power lines and sent to devices for converting their kinetic energy into other types of energy (electricity, light, heat, etc.).

RАЗ≥ Rр=Mр•Vр/(Zр•Bр) (1)
где RАЗ - радиус АЗ реактора;
Rр - ларморовский радиус ВП;
Мр - релятивистская масса ВП;
Vр - скорость ВП;
Zр - заряд ВП;
In order for the VP not to fall on the walls of the reactor reactor core, when they rotate inside it, their energy - speed, Larmor radius of rotation and relativistic mass must satisfy the following condition:
R AZ ≥ R p = M p • V p / (Z p • B p ) (1)
where R AZ - radius of the reactor AZ;
R p - Larmor radius of the VP;
M p - relativistic mass of VP;
V p - speed VP;
Z p - charge VP;
In p is the magnetic field strength of the trap in the region of rotation of the VP.

ΔWдел= η/(κ+η) (2)
где η = ΔWдел•Nn(дел)/(ΔWВП•Nn(ВП));
κ = Nn(дел)/Nn(ВП);
ΔWдел, ΔWВП - энергия деления и ВП (ΔWдел+ΔWВП= 1);
in this case, the fission energy released is controlled by a change in the energy of the high-energy proton beam, the fission energy, the fast neutron yield during fission, and the high-energy proton energy and fast neutron yield under the action of high-energy protons, without taking into account the fission energy due to the action of high-energy protons on fissile material, which is taken into account separately, related by:
Cases ΔW = η / (κ + η) ( 2)
where η = ΔW casesN n (cases) / (ΔW VIN n (VI));
κ = N n (div) / N n (VP);
Cases ΔW, ΔW VI - VI and fission energy (ΔW Affairs + ΔW VP = 1);
N n (div), N n (VP) - the number of neutrons obtained during fission and from the VP.

In the case when the ratio of the maximum value of the cross section for resonant-dynamic fission of a moving fissile material to the fission cross section of a stationary fissile material irradiated by thermal neutrons is equal to or greater than the decrease in the critical density of the stationary fissile material in the reactor core, then after exposure to high-energy protons fissile matter is ionized and rotationally driven, and its drift rotation speed begins to approach its maximum value As a result of neutron multiplication in resonance, the neutron multiplication factor in fissile material began to approach unity, so that it does not exceed this value, they begin to reduce the supply of high-energy protons to the reactor core and, after their cessation is complete, the fission energy released in the reactor core, is controlled by changing the drift velocity and (or) the density of the fissile material in the reactor core, and overheating of the fissile material with increasing energy release is prevented by an increase supplying a cooler gas to the reactor core.

To obtain additional energy or additional BN, or to further reduce the critical density of fissile material, the initial synthesis reaction nuclei are used as a cooler gas, which, taking energy from fissile material, fission fragments and VP, are heated as they approach the axial region of the AZ reactor can be heated to thermonuclear temperatures, which will ensure the onset of thermonuclear fusion reactions in them. The fusion energy will provide the required amount of additional energy, and the fusion neutrons will provide the necessary VT density in the reactor AZ and the predetermined rate of reduction of the critical density of fissile nuclei. In this case, after ignition of thermonuclear reactions, the supply of VP can be stopped.

Curve 6 represents a decrease in the critical density of fissile material with an increase in the cross section of the RD fission by 100 times.

The sequence of operations in the application is as follows: supplying fissile material and a cooler gas to the reactor reactor until a predetermined fissile density is reached, introducing the VP into the reactor reactor and rotating them inside it, performing nuclear reactions in the fissile material with the emission of BN under the action of the VP, slowing down the BN to thermal energies and the direction of the obtained VT in the reactor AZ, the ionization of the fissile nuclei and the cooler nuclei and their rotation around the longitudinal axis of the reactor with a drift velocity that ensures RD fission of the fissile material of the VT moving the cooler gas to the axial region due to centrifugation and cooling the fissile nuclei and reducing their degree of ionization, as well as taking energy from the high-energy fission fragments and removing the cooler gas together with fission fragments from the reactor AZ through the loss cone along the magnetic trap its magnetic lines of force and their direction into devices for converting kinetic energy into other types of energies.

The main difference from the prototype is that instead of obtaining additional neutrons from thermonuclear reactions, they are obtained from the action of VP on fissile material.

The main advantages of using VPs are that, rotating along their Larmor radius inside the reactor core, they will constantly pass through a rarefied plasma of fissile material and, thanks to a sufficiently large path through it, will most likely carry out the fission of fissile material with a high neutron yield. And also, that VPs are not captured by nuclei of fissile material and do not form transuranic nuclides, since the probability of VP capture is practically zero (for example, the cross section for neutron capture with an energy of 14 MeV for Pu-239 is δ c = 0.009 bar [1] , while the VP capture cross section will be even smaller). Therefore, increasing the number of fission events by means of VP and reducing the radiative capture of VT by fissile material, which can be achieved by using resonances with a small value of α = α c / δ f , where δ c is the capture cross section, δ f is the fission cross section. For example, α = 0.35 when the VT is irradiated with stationary Pu-239 and α = 0.05 when it is irradiated with neutrons with an energy of 15.5 eV), it will be possible to increase the utilization (“burning”) of fissile material.

Consider the relationship between the energy of the VP and the number of BN arising from the interaction of the VP with fissile material. In FIG. Figure 1 shows the fission cross sections of U-238 under the influence of neutrons and VP in the energy range from 0 to 600 MeV [2]. From those shown in FIG. 1 of the data it follows that starting from energies of more than 12 MeV, the fission cross section for VPs is slightly larger than that for neutrons of equal energy, therefore, for the sake of simplification, we can assume that these cross sections are approximately the same.

2. Using the accepted assumption and the fact that the mean free path with an energy of less than 350 MeV must be taken from the ionization range, since it is less than the nuclear mean free path [3], we find the number of fission events in the fissile material under the action of the fast-track. The results of calculating the output of the BN division by one VP are shown in the 6th column of the table and curve 1 in FIG. 2.

The thus obtained values of the number of neutrons per one VP will be considered the lower limit of the number of BN produced under the action of the VP, since the neutrons generated by other reactions were not taken into account in the calculation.

In column 7 and in FIG. 2 curve 2 presents data on the output of the BN on one VP (taken from [4]). In the 8th column and in FIG. 2, curve 3 (dashed curve), the estimated outputs of the BN to one VP are shown. Column 9 shows the number of BNs attributable to the energy released during a single fission event of fissile material, equal to 200 MeV. The data presented show that the efficiency of neutron generation increases with the energy of the VP. Moreover, if the VP energy is 400 MeV, then the VP neutron generation efficiency practically coincides with the number of neutrons produced by the thermonuclear D-T reaction, i.e. about 12 neutrons per fission event, and at an EP energy of more than 1 GeV, the neutron generation efficiency approaches the number of neutrons produced by the D-D reaction, which has about 27 neutrons per fission energy.

- нагрев и удержание термоядерной плазмы;
- наличие большого тормозного и циклотронного излучения падающего на внутреннюю стенку АЗ реактора;
- отсутствие необходимости в получении дорогих нуклидов трития и гелия-3;
When generating BN by means of VP, in order to reduce the critical density of fissile material, the main difficulties associated with thermonuclear reactions disappear, namely:
- heating and retention of thermonuclear plasma;
- the presence of a large bremsstrahlung and cyclotron radiation incident on the inner wall of the AZ reactor;
- lack of need for expensive nuclides of tritium and helium-3;
- almost complete exclusion of dangerous neutrons with an energy of 14 MeV, which are obtained by the most easily ignited thermonuclear DT reaction.

The data presented in [5] to reduce the critical density of fissile material from additional synthesis neutrons can be used for the purposes of this invention. That is, using BN obtained from the action of VP on fissile material, it is possible to reduce its critical density by 1 ... 3 orders of magnitude.

To use the data [5], we first consider how additional synthesis neutrons affect the decrease in the critical density of fissile material.

For this, in FIG. H [5], the multiples of the decrease in the critical density of immovable fissile material with a change in the fraction of the fission energy in the total energy release are given, for the DT reaction curve 1 and curve 2 for the DD reaction. From the above data it follows that when the synthesis energy is zero (ΔW synth = 0.0), then all the released energy is due only to fission, as a result we get the initial critical density of the fissile material, which we take for 1.0. If, for example, the energy of the synthesis DT is 30% of the total energy ΔW = 70% of cases), then the critical density of fissile material drop 10 times.

For this example, we find the relationship between the synthesis and fission BN, for this we assume that the total energy release is 1 MW. Then, in order to obtain 1 MW of energy from the fission reaction, it is necessary that 3.1 • 10 16 fission events occur, and with each fission event of plutonium-239 TH, 2.9 neutrons will be emitted, therefore the total number of fission neutrons when releasing 0.7 MW, will be equal to:
N n (div) = 0.7 • 3.1 • 10 16 • 2.9 = 6.3 • 10 16 [neutrons]
Since one neutron is emitted during one act of DT fusion (other emitted particles are not considered) and 17.6 MeV of energy is released, the number of synthesis neutrons (fusion events) for the release of 200 MeV of energy (as in one fission event) will be: 200/17 , 6 = 11.4 neutrons (act of synthesis). Therefore, with the release of 0.3 MW of fusion energy, the number of emitted neutrons will be equal to:
N (synt) = 0.3 • 11.4 • 3.1 • 10 16 • 1.0 = 1.06 • 10 17 [neutrons]
From these data it follows that for each emitted BN of fusion in fissile material, the density of which is 10 times less than critical, η = 6.3 • 10 16 / 1.06 • 10 17 = 0.594 fission neutrons are formed. In this case, the synthesis energy is 2.3 times less than the fission energy. (A similar calculation for the density of fissile material is 100 times less than the critical one showed that 0.06 fission neutrons are formed for each fusion neutron, while the fusion energy is 4 times the fission energy).

η = 0,85•3,1•1016•2,9/(0,15•27,4 •3,1•1016) = 0,6
An important property of the obtained neutron ratio for the selected density of fissile material is that it also holds for other fusion reactions. To verify, we find this ratio for the DD reaction (the number of neutrons in the case of the release of 200 MeV of the DD synthesis energy is 200 / 7.3 = 27.4). So from FIG. Figure 3 of curve 2 shows that for this density of fissile material the fraction of the DD synthesis energy is 15%, while the ratio of fission neutrons to synthesis neutrons will also be equal to:
η = 0.85 • 3.1 • 10 16 • 2.9 / (0.15 • 27.4 • 3.1 • 10 16 ) = 0.6
Therefore, this value of the parameter η should also be suitable for neutrons obtained from the VP.

We find the number of VP (N p ) corresponding to the proton beam energy W p = 1 MW, and assume that the proton energy is E p = 1 GeV.

Nр = Wр/(Eр•1,6•10-19) = 106/(1•109•1,6•10-19) = 6,25•1015 [прот] Такое количество протонов соответствует протонному пучку 0,001 ампера. Это не очень большая величина, поскольку для электроядерного реактора планируется использовать протонные ускорители с током протонного пучка 0,3 ампера [6].N p = W p / (E p • 1.6 • 10 -19 ) = 10 6 / (1 • 10 9 • 1.6 • 10 -19 ) = 6.25 • 10 15 [prot] This number of protons corresponds a proton beam of 0.001 amperes. This is not a very large value, since it is planned to use proton accelerators with a proton beam current of 0.3 amperes for an electron-nuclear reactor [6].

Nр = 100•6,25•1015 = 6,25•1017 [БН]
Based on the previously obtained data (table and Fig. 2), it follows that each VP with an energy of 1 GeV, moving in a rarefied plasma of plutonium-239, will produce about 100 BN, therefore, the total number of emitted BN from the VP beam with an energy of 1 MW will be equal to :
N p = 100 • 6.25 • 10 15 = 6.25 • 10 17 [BN]
Assuming that the critical density of fissile material is also reduced by 10 times, i.e., for each additional BN generated by the VP, 0.6 fission BN is formed, we can find the fission energy, which in this case will be equal to:
W (div) = 0.6 • 6.25 • 10 17 / (3.1 • 10 13 • 2.9) = 4.2 MW
This means that in the total energy release, the energy of the proton beam will be 19.2%, and the energy obtained from the fission of fissile material, 80.8%.

In FIG. Curve 3 in Fig. 3 shows a dependence showing the effect of additional neutrons of generated VPs on the decrease in the critical density of fissile material, with a different ratio in the total energy release of fission energies and the beam of the VP, with a proton energy of 1 GeV. It can be seen from the obtained data that the nature of the decrease in the critical density of fissile material when using EPs with an energy of 1 GeV is very close to the character of the decrease in the critical density of fissile material when using neutrons in the D-D synthesis reaction.

W = Wр + Dдел + Wр (дел) = 1 + 4,2 + 5 = 10,2 МВт
However, the data presented do not take into account the fission energy in the production of BN from VP. So, for example, in [7] on page 67 it is said that this energy can be 10 times higher than the energy of a proton beam if VPs propagate in a natural mixture of uranium-238 (uranium-235 content is 0.7%), while if used depleted of uranium-238, the neutron yield will decrease by 25%. This means that if the additional energy released by VP in the production of BN in fissile material is taken even less, for example, equal to 50% (the decrease in energy is due to the fact that although 100% enrichment of plutonium will be used, which should increase the released energy, the calculations did not take into account the possible loss of VP through the loss cone of the magnetic trap), then taking into account this energy, the total energy release in the reactor AZ will be equal to:
W = W p + D div + W p (div) = 1 + 4.2 + 5 = 10.2 MW
Consequently, the fraction of proton beam energy in the total energy release can be less than 10%, and since the energy of the VP during its conversion into the reactor AZ into other types of energy ultimately almost completely leaves the reactor AZ and enters the devices by direct conversion (direct conversion coefficient electricity can be more than 80%), then the internal costs due to the use of VP will not be very large. At the same time, the efficiency of obtaining the VP is also large, since, as shown in [4] on page 903, it can exceed 50%, this is due to the fact that the process of obtaining the VP will be similar to a conventional transformer.

Thus, using VP to obtain additional neutrons and thereby lowering the critical density of fissile material may be easier than using the DT synthesis reaction for this purpose, and given that the average energy of BN obtained from VP is 2.0 .. .2.5 eV, this advantage increases even more, since there will be no dangerous neutrons with an energy of 14 MeV, which cause dangerous induced activity in the structural materials of the reactor.

An important advantage of using VP is also that the total power released in the reactor core is proportional to the energy of the proton beam, therefore, by changing the beam energy, it can be adjusted from zero to maximum. Moreover, the smaller the decrease in the critical density of fissile material, the greater will be the influence of the energy of the proton beam on the output power.

In addition, in this method there is another option for changing the total energy release. This is due to the fact that in this method the fissile material is moved by rotation with a drift speed relative to the longitudinal axis of the reactor chamber under the action of crossed electric and magnetic fields. The magnitude of this velocity will mainly be determined by the magnitude of the electric field, since the magnetic field of the trap is very large and therefore very difficult to change. Therefore, for example, to ensure resonance fission of plutonium-239 (E res = 0.3 eV) and uranium-233 (E res = 1.7 eV) with mutually perpendicular motion of VT and fissile material nuclei, the drift velocity of plutonium should be V LW = 7250, and uranium 18200 m / s. (These are not very high velocities, since in [8] on page 4 it was shown that the drift velocities of plasma rotation can be equal to 10 4 - 10 5 m / s). To achieve such speeds with a magnetic field of 5 T, the electric field strength should be 36 kV / m for plutonium rotation and 91 kV / m for uranium. In this case, the critical density of Pu-239 and U-233 will decrease by 3 [5] and approximately 10 times, respectively.

First, we consider the case where the fissile material is stationary and the fission energy is 70% (VP energy 30%), this value corresponds to point "A" on curve 3 of FIG. 3. For this point, the critical density of fissile material is reduced by 19 times, ie, the density of fissile material is 0.052 • N KP . (N KP is the critical density of fissile material without additional neutrons).

Now suppose that the fissile material begins to move at a speed at which the fission cross section increases three times (E res = 0.3 eV, for plutonium-239). Such an increase in the fission cross-section for TN is equivalent to a 3-fold increase in the density of fissile material. And this corresponds to the fact that point “A” should move upward along curve 2 to point “B”, for which the critical density is increased 3 times and is equal to: 3 • 0.052 = 0.156. For this point, the fraction of fission energy in the total energy release increased and became equal to almost 90% of the total energy release. This means that with a proton beam energy of 1 MW, 9 MW of fission energy will be released. If we use the U-233 resonance with an energy of 1.7 eV, then point "A" will move to point "C", for which the fraction of the fission energy will be 97%, that is, more than 32 will be allocated for 1 MW of proton beam energy MW of fission energy, for all the same density of nuclei of fissile material equal to 0.052 of its nominal value. If we use a resonance at which the fission cross section increases by more than 19 times, i.e. Since the calculated density of the fissile material seems to exceed the critical density, then in this case the chain reaction will accelerate. (For a conventional reactor, this is the worst case, an example of an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant). For the reactor under consideration, based on the RD fission reaction, nothing terrible will happen, since the increased energy release in the fissile material will begin to primarily heat the nuclei of the fissile material, i.e. change the speed of their movement, and this will lead to a violation of the RD conditions for the fission of the fissile material of VT and, in this regard, the chain reaction will stop, since the critical density of the fissile material, for all conditions except a specific resonance, is much less than the critical density.

However, for the latter case considered, which can be obtained at any resonance by increasing the critical density of fissile material in the reactor AZ, when the ratio of the maximum value of the resonant-dynamic fission cross section of the moving fissile material to the fission cross section of the stationary fissile material irradiated by thermal neutrons is equal to or greater than reduce the critical density of the stationary fissile material in the reactor core, then after under the action of high-energy proton fissile matter is ionized and put into rotational motion, and its drift speed of rotation began to approach its maximum value in resonance, and therefore K eff - the neutron multiplication factor in fissile matter began to approach unity, so that it does not exceed of this value, they begin to reduce the supply of high-energy protons to the reactor core and, after their cessation is complete, the fission energy released in the reactor core is controlled by a change in the drift velocity and (or) the density of fissile material in the reactor core, and overheating of the fissile material with increasing energy is prevented from increasing in the reactor feed gas cooler zone.

180 [9]).Now consider the case when we want to preserve the fission energy at the initial level, i.e. so that it is always equal to 70%. In this case, it is necessary that with an increase in the fission cross section due to RD by fission of fissile material, a corresponding decrease in the density of fissile material occurs. This means that for the Pu-239 resonance of 0.3 eV at which the cross section of the RD fission increases by 3 times, the density of the fissile material should also be reduced by 3 times, i.e. point "A" will shift down to the place of point "B 1 " or point "C 1 " for resonance U-233, in which the fission cross section increases by 10 times. If after the density of fissile material for a given resonance reaches its minimum value, its further decrease continues, then in this case the fraction of the fission energy in the total energy release begins to decrease. The nature of this decrease will be similar to curve 3, it will simply be shifted down, for lower densities of fissile material, respectively 3 times for Pu-239 curve 4, 10 times for U-233 curve 5 or in accordance with curve 6, which is obtained for the case at which the effect of RD fission of fissile material is 100 (the maximum effect of RD fission of Pu-239 at its resonance of 75.2 eV is 180 [9]).

To obtain additional energy or additional BN, or to further reduce the critical density of the fissile material, synthesis reactions can be used. These reactions can be initiated by high-energy fission and VP fragments when replacing the cooling gas, in our case helium, with a gas mixture of the starting synthesis nuclei.

The main factor hindering the course of thermonuclear reactions is the presence of fissile nuclei, the concentration of which can be reduced due to the considered decrease in the critical density of fissile material and the centrifugation effect during drift rotation, due to which the density of fissile nuclei in the paraxial region where it is supposed to “set fire” the fusion reaction can be reduced, from its average value, by more than three orders of magnitude [8, p. 25]. Based on this, the permissible value of the average density of fissile material over the reactor AZ can be determined using curves 3,4,5 and 6 in FIG. 3. After reaching the specified density in the reactor’s AZ, the gas-cooler is replaced by gas from the initial synthesis nuclei, which, taking energy from fissile material, fission fragments and VP, is heated and, as it approaches the axial region of the reactor, it can be heated to thermonuclear temperatures , which will provide the beginning and subsequent stable occurrence of thermonuclear fusion reactions in the axial region.

In this case, the fusion energy will provide the required amount of additional energy, and the fusion neutrons will provide the necessary VT density in the reactor AZ and the predetermined rate of reduction of the critical density of fissile nuclei. Moreover, after the "ignition" of thermonuclear reactions, the supply of VP can be stopped.
