Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a laser location, and in particular to systems for obtaining information about objects in the surface layer of the atmosphere from an aircraft.
The aim of the invention is the recognition of methane clouds in the control of leaks in an industrial gas pipeline.
[1]. A known method of obtaining images of the earth's surface using an optical quantum generator, based on the transmission of laser radiation to the object under study, receiving the radiation reflected from the object, converting it and processing it [1].
A known method for remote measurement of the spatial distribution of the concentration of aerosol in the atmosphere and a device for its implementation (AS USSR N 1812535, class G 01 S 17/00). The device operates as follows: a laser emitter under the control of the synchronization unit generates a light pulse, which is focused by the transmitting channel of the optical system and is emitted by a scanner to the starting point of ejection. Scattered by the ejection optical radiation through the scanner enters the receiving channel of the optical focusing system, which focuses the received optical radiation on the photodetector. The electrical signal generated by the photodetector is amplified by an amplifier and enters the meter, which determines the distribution over the distance of the concentration of pollutants.
The disadvantages of this method and device is the inability to accurately select a specific gas (in this case, methane) and the allocation of this information against the background of interfering atmospheric interference.
[2]. A known method and device for simultaneously sensing the earth's surface with radiation with different wavelengths, receiving and processing reflected signals [2].
The disadvantage of these technical solutions is the inability to use them for monitoring and identifying a methane cloud.
The proposed method differs from the described technical solutions in that scanning along the gas pipeline with modulated laser radiation is carried out by three different-frequency rays, additionally modulated in amplitude, the rays reflected from the methane cloud are received by one photodetector, scanning is synchronous with the modulation of the rays, and the scanning speed is consistent with the time-frequency photodetector filter parameters.
The essence of the method is as follows. A number of gases and vapors are present in the standard atmosphere, including methane and water vapor, which have the so-called background concentration. Methane is detected by recording the magnitude of the absorption of a signal reflected from the earth's surface when sensing from an aircraft. The absorption value depends both on the integral concentration of methane on the sensing path and on the degree of coincidence of the wavelength of the probe radiation with the spectral course of methane absorption. Since there are water vapor in any atmosphere, the absorption spectrum of which is almost continuous, and the absorption cross section is quite significant, the effect of water absorption affects the total absorption on the methane sensing spectral line. Given that the spectral behavior of the absorption of methane and water has its own characteristics, sounding is additionally performed at a wavelength offset from the first. In addition to absorption by water vapor, the magnitude of the reflected signal amplitude is affected by a change in the value of the reflecting properties of the earth's surface. To take into account the variable reflection coefficient by the ground, sounding is additionally performed at a third radiation wavelength, the absorption at which mainly depends either on methane alone or only on water.
Thus, receiving three reflected signals at three wavelengths, the problem of determining the concentration of methane is solved by eliminating the influence of water and a variable reflection of the earth's surface. To separate the reflected signals at three wavelengths λ 1 , λ 2 , λ 3 the amplitude modulation of radiation is carried out at frequencies f 1 , f 2 , f 3, respectively. The reflected signals are recorded by a photodetector and separated by filtering at the frequencies of amplitude modulation. Further joint processing of the three signals makes it possible to determine the amount of methane in the surface layer in the vicinity of the pipeline.
The difference between the device for implementing the method is the presence of a converter that allows you to change the radiation wavelength. The time-frequency parameters of the photodetector filters are consistent with the scanning speed.

10. The device operates as follows: a continuous light stream from a laser emitter 1 enters the input of an amplitude modulator 2. A continuous light stream of a laser emitter 3 enters a beam splitter 4. The first light stream of a laser emitter 3 enters an amplitude modulator 5, and a second light stream enters a frequency converter 6 and an amplitude modulator 7. The light flux from the laser emitters 1, 3 enters the scanning device 11. The light flux reflected from the surface of the earth through the scanning device 11 and the optical system 8 is fed to a photodetector 9, from the outputs of which three electrical signals, filtered at the modulation frequencies of the amplitude modulators 2, 5, 7, are fed to the signal processing unit 10.
Amplitude modulators 2, 5, 7 provide selective reception of radiation at the photodetector to separate the reflected signal and reduce the bandwidth to reduce the effect of noise. Laser emitters 1, 3 are made on a helium-neon mixture with emission lines in the region of the absorption spectrum of methane.
The scanning frequency of the device 11, providing an overview of the space across the axis of the helicopter, is consistent with the modulation frequency. The scanning speed is selected from the conditions for creating a viewing raster with a given step, and the frequencies of the amplitude modulation of radiation are selected based on the scanning speed and are consistent with the time-frequency parameters of the photodetector's electrical filters to obtain the required signal-to-noise ratio during a single counting. The photodetector 9 includes a photodetector and amplifiers with filters. The processing unit registers a signal when a predetermined signal-to-noise ratio is exceeded. Scanning is carried out linearly, across the axis of the helicopter.
