The system (100) for separating carbon dioxide and sour gas from the synthesis gas includes a synthesis gas purification circuit (102) including at least one absorption column (108), connected by a flow connection to a lean solvent feed, and includes a carbon dioxide removal circuit (104), connected downstream of the synthesis gas purification circuit (102). The carbon dioxide removal circuit (104) includes at least one component that facilitates the removal of carbon dioxide from the solvent after the solvent has passed through the syngas purification circuit. The carbon dioxide removal circuit (104) also includes at least one compressor (138, 140, 142) that operates at a substantially similar pressure as the at least one component. The system includes a sour gas removal circuit (106) connected downstream of the carbon dioxide removal circuit (104). The sour gas removal circuit (106) includes at least one absorption column (110). The invention includes a method for assembling a system for separating carbon dioxide and sour gas from synthesis gas.
