Abstract

Producing hydrogen for fuel by traditional method of water electrolysis is uneconomical requiring more energy from what can be obtained from combustion of hydrogen. The device generates hydrogen fuel from water by electrolysis using minimal to near zero power input utilizing reversibility of electrochemical reactions in an alternating or reversing current power supply. Two (2) electrochemical cells are coupled or connected wherein one operates as battery and the other operates as electrolysis cell, the duty of each cell changes from battery to electrolysis cell or electrolysis cell to battery each time the electric current direction reverses. Hydrogen is generated by the reaction of water or acid with the reactive metal deposited in the cathode. The invention's primary scope are electrical/electronic circuits that enable coupling of electrochemical cells.
