Abstract

The invention is a useful tool for the management of the routines and movement of farm animals about a farm, providing farmers and farm workers with a straightforward visual means for understanding when and where certain actions need to occur for maximum efficiency of farm operations. The method involves the steps of: • designating a first area of a farm as being a first farmlet; • designating a second area of the farm as being a second farmlet; • providing a first marker indicative of the availability of the first farmlet to farm animals; • providing a second marker indicative of the availability of the second farmlet to farm animals; • providing a moveable indicator associated with at least one of the first farmlet or second farmlet and designating a time for an action item for farm animals in the first farmlet or second farmlet; and wherein the first marker is moveable relative to the second marker such that the availability of one or more of the first farmlet and the second farmlet may be adjusted. The invention assists the farmer and farm workers in determining when action items, for example, opening certain gates controlling access to specific areas of the farm and/or milking yard or fetching stray cows from specific areas, should be performed. The invention also provides a means by which feed allocation and timing of certain action items can be readily adjusted depending on anomaly events such as machinery breakdown or the like. The invention can also be used to condition younger cows to the routines associated with milking events.
