Luchtband.Pneumatic tire.
The present invention relates to pneumatic tires and more particularly to radial pneumatic tires.
Radial pneumatic tires typically include a crown portion with an annular belt, a pair of sidewall members, a pair of heel members, and a carcass or frame, which includes one or more carcass plies of rubberized cords positioned at an angle of substantially 90 ° (radial) relative to the circumferential mid-plane of the tire.
The cords of these carcass plies can be made of materials such as metal, glass, natural textile or synthetic textile such as rayon, nylon, polyester, aromatic polyamide or other similar materials.
The radial tire casing provides structural stability to the tire, reduces the susceptibility of the tire to bruising, and reduces the possibility of separation of the 15 parts of the tire that can occur in the tire. In the crown portion of the belt, an annular belt also aids in reducing the belt's susceptibility to bruising.
The number of carcass layers incorporated in a radial tire carcass usually depends on the intended operation or use of the tire. Radial tires, which have at least two continuous carcass layers, are tires that serve as large passenger car tires and radial light truck tires. In such tires, the layers generally run continuously from one bead portion of the strap, adjacent the shoulder and crown portion, to the other bead portion, and in most belts, each layer is wrapped around a bead in each bead portion.
In a radial tire carcass having two continuous layers, an inner (first) layer and an outer (second) layer, that the second layer achieves limited structural stability in the crown portion of the tire and in the bead portions of the tire.
The second layer also provides limited bruise resistance £ 1 * Λ £ V '-J V <% /' f - 2 - in the crown portion of the tire, as the belt provides most of the bruise resistance.
Tire manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to reduce the total weight of radial tires and their manufacturing costs. Relatively unsuccessful attempts have been made to design a single-layer radial tire for operation that traditionally requires two or more carcass layers. Other efforts have been directed to reduce the amount of carcass material in one of the layers of a multi-layer tire, such as tires containing discontinuous radial outer or second layers, as described, for example, in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,058,509, 3,481. 386, 3,509,930, 4,096,899, and 4,185,679. US Pat. No. 3,058,509 describes a tire which is provided with an outer carcass layer which is discontinuous or interrupted in the crown part of the tire. The outer layers of the tires described in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,481,398, 3,509,930 and 4,096,899 are also discontinuous in the crown portion of the tires as well as in locations near the bead. Often the cords and / or the rubber in such a discontinuous outer layer are made of special materials other than the materials of which the continuous radial inner or first layer is made. For example, according to U.S. Patent 4,185,679, a second discontinuous layer differs from the first layer in that the rubber of the second layer has a Shore A hardness after vulcanization of 40 ° to 50 °. Advantages of incorporating a discontinuous layer are often canceled when the materials in the second discontinuous layer differ from the materials in the first continuous layer.
It has also been found that considerable forces can act between the rim of the wheel on which the tire is mounted and the lower sidewall parts of the tire. In the sidewall portion, significant forces act on the tire in the area where the wheel rim flange contacts the sidewall of the tire. In this contact area with the rim flange, the sidewall bends over the rim flange. The contact area of the tire with the rim flange must be made strong enough, 9 ^ - 3 - to withstand this bending and the resulting forces.
It has further been found that a predetermined thickness must be maintained in each bead portion between the radial inner portion 5 of the bead wire and the surface of the bead portion to allow proper mounting of the tire on the rim.
Thus, when tires are designed with discontinuous carcass plies, unsatisfactory tires can result from this by alloying certain parts of the tire where special forces occur and special measures are required in the bead section.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved radial pneumatic tire.
Another object of the invention is to provide a radial tire, which provides performance comparable to that of a typical radial tire with two or more continuous carcass layers, but which is distinguished by lower manufacturing costs and lower weight, compared with that of such a typical tire.
These and other objects, which will become apparent from the following description, are achieved according to the invention in a radial pneumatic tire, which has a circumferential mid-surface, a pair of bead parts containing a bead wire, a crown part comprising a belt assembly, a pair of side wall parts and a carcass, comprising an inner radial layer containing rubber cords positioned radially with respect to the circumferential mid face of the tire, the inner radial layer continuously extending from one bead portion to the other bead portion and anchored in the bead portions by is wrapped around the bead wire and a radial outer layer consisting of two sections so that said radial outer layer is discontinuous in the crown portion of the tire and the bead portion of the tire. Each section of the outer radial layer extends from the outside of the bead portion to axially inward from the edges of the belt assembly.

Gedetailleerde beschrijvingDetailed description
The present invention can be further described in detail with reference to the preferred embodiments and with reference to the two figures of the drawing, wherein the same reference numerals are placed with like features or parts.
The invention is described with reference to its application to a large radial tire of a passenger car. Although the radial tire according to the invention is very well suited for passenger cars, it can also be applied to other types and sizes of tires, such as light truck radial tires and other larger multi-layer radial tires.
In figures 1 and 2, a shaped and vulcanized radial pneumatic tire 6 is shown, which is mounted on a rim 7 of a wheel 8. The tire 6 comprises a crown part 9, a pair of side wall parts 10 and a pair of bead parts 11, which are formed for engagement with the rim 7 on which the tire 6 is to be mounted. A bead wire 22 is included in each bead portion 11.
The crown portion 9 generally includes a layer of tread-rubber 28, which has a suitable pattern 29 of alternating grooves and ribs, to provide tensile strength and slip resistance. A belt assembly 12 is located radially inwardly of the tread rubber layer 28. The belt assembly 12 comprises two belts 13 and 14, which are composed of rubber cords of low-stretch materials, such as nylon, rayon, glass fiber, steel or aromatic polyamide. The cords in the belts 13 and 14 are placed at an acute angle from about 10 ° to about 30 ° to the circumferential mid face P of the belt 6. It is preferred that these cords are placed at equal, but opposite angles. in adjacent belts 13 and 14.

Both side wall parts 10 are generally composed of a suitable thickness of side wall rubber 26, which extends from the edges of the tread rubber 28 to each bead part 11. Each side wall part 10 has an area 60 near the rim 7, where the bending of the side wall part 10 against the rim 7 occurs. These areas 60 in the side wall portion are referred to as the contact area with the rim flange.
The tire 6 has a carcass 15 with two layers of rubberized cords, a radial inner or first layer 17 and a radial outer or second layer 18. The second layer 18 has two sections 18a and 18b. The cords in the two carcass plies 17 and 18 may be made of suitable material used for carcass reinforcement cords and are oriented so that the individual rubberized cords lie radially of the circumferential center plane P of the tire. Preferably, the first and second layers are made of the same cord and rubber material.
Bij de uitvoeringsvorm volgens de figuren 1 en 2 is de breedte van de gordel 13 ongeveer 6 inch (21, 24 cm), waarbij elke sectie 18a en 18b zich axiaal binnenwaarts ten opzichte van elke gordelrand 63 uitstrekt over tenminste ongeveer drievierde 30 inch (1,86 cm).According to Figures 1 and 2, the two sections 18a 20 and 18b of the second layer 18 extend from a location radially inward from the belt 13 to a point between the contact area 60 with the rim flange and the bead portion 11. The two sections 18a and 18b extend axially inwardly so that they overlap the two belt edges 63 with preferably at least about 12% of the width of the belt 13 to reduce the chance of separations. In the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2, the width of the belt 13 is about 6 inches (21, 24 cm), with each section 18a and 18b extending axially inward from each belt edge 63 over at least about three-quarters of 30 inches (1 , 86 cm).
To reduce the chance of separation of the first layer 17 and the second layer 18 from each other in the sidewall portion 10 of the tire near the bead portion 11, the second layer 18 extends radially inwardly from the edge 73 of the first layer 35 17 out over at least one and a half inches (3.72 cm). In order to also reduce the chance of separation of the second layer 18 and the side wall 26 from each other in the contact area 60 with the rim flange, the second layer 18 preferably extends about three-eighths of an inch. (0.93 cm) radially inwardly from the contact area 60 with the rim flange.
The belt 6 is provided with an inner liner 25, which is composed of rubber material, such as butyl rubber, which is suitable for resisting diffusion of air from the belt 6.
Zoals in fig. As shown in Fig. 1, the inner liner 25 extends from one bead portion 11, over one sidewall portion 10, crown portion 9 and the other sidewall portion 10 to the other bead portion 11.
In this embodiment, the inner liner 25 forms additional or "filler" material in each bead portion 11, to allow a suitable mounting of the tire 6 on the rim 7 of the wheel 8. The thickness of the inner liner 25 is preferably about the same as the thickness of the second layer 18, to obtain substantially the same material thickness between the bead wire 22 and the rim 7, as is present in tires with a second layer wrapped around the bead wires.
Zoals in fig. Each heel portion 11 has a "toe" 50 and a finishing strip 20 19, which generally consists of rubberized square woven fabric. As shown in Fig. 1, each finishing strip 19 extends from a location axially outward of the second layer 18 and the inner liner 25 to a location approximately 3/8 inch (0.92 cm) radially outward from the toe 50. The finishing strip 19 extends radially outward from the edge of the second layer 18 about 3/4 inch (1.86 cm). In this embodiment, the finishing strip 19 resists abrasion or scraping between the bead portion 11 and the rim 7.
It is understood that certain deviations from and changes to the described preferred embodiment are possible within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
