Abstract

Liquid separator comprises a housing and the feed consists of continuous phase and lighter dispersed phase. It is fed to an inlet zone. Separate outlets for the two phases connect to separate zones of the vessel. Between the inlet and outlet zones is a stack of stationary plates. These slope downwards in the continuous phase flow direction. The plates are parallel to each other. The feed is at the bottom of the vessel. The light phase outlet is at the top of a riser above the feed point. The plates border the riser. Used in sepn. of e.g. oil from water. The feed/riser arrangement allows a compact design. Large solids which would block the channels between plates separate in the inner and collect near the first outlet.
