Description
A bicycle front-wheel steering assembly
The invention relates to a bicycle front-wheel steering assembly comprising a turntable and a stand provided with a 5 base, wherein the turntable has a receptacle for a bicycle front-wheel.
Such a bicycle front-wheel steering assembly is known from US 2009/0283648 which discloses an apparatus that enables a conventional bicycle to serve for exercising and act as a 10 controller for electronic games and the like. A disadvantage of this known steering assembly is that when the front-wheel of a bicycle mounted to the turntable is turned, the bicycle leans in the direction in which the front-wheel of the bicycle is turned. Consequently, the bicycle feels unstable to a person 15 using the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly.
The present invention is aimed at providing a bicycle front-wheel steering assembly with an improved design compared to the prior art.
The bicycle frontwheel steering assembly of the inven-20 tion is having the features of one or more of the appended claims .
In a first aspect of the invention, the turntable of the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly is inclined at an angle in relation to the base of the stand. This provides the 25 possibility to improve the stability of the bicycle is used in combination with the bicycle frontwheel steering assembly of the invention.
The angle of the turntable in relation to the base of the stand is preferably such that in use, the turntable and the 30 steering column of a bicycle mounted to the turntable are perpendicular. This ensures that the bicycle does not lean as a result of turning the front-wheel.
For ease of manufacturing the stand is preferably j wedge shaped and the receptacle is preferably embodied as a 35 slot.
In a second aspect of the invention, the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly is provided with a sensor having a function of outputting an angular position of the turntable with respect to a predefined position.
40 By providing a means for outputting an angular position of i 2 the turntable relative to a predefined position, the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly is usable as a means for interfacing with, for example, a computer game, or computer-based training software.
5 The sensor is preferably a potentiometer and is fur ther preferably attached to a transmitter to transmit the directional signal wirelessly to a computer. Embodying the sensor as a potentiometer provides a low-cost solution that is yet reliable. Transmitting the signals of the sensor wirelessly to a 10 computer provides a high degree of versatility in the use of the bicycle frontwheel steering assembly of the invention.
In a third aspect of the invention, the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly includes a beam, wherein the stand with the turntable is positioned at one extremity of said beam, and 15 wherein said beam further comprises, at an opposite extremity, a facility for positioning a supporting means for mounting a rear-wheel of a bicycle. This embodiment provides stability to the use of the frontwheel steering assembly in combination with the bicycle that is mounted thereon, due to the ensuring of a 20 fixed distance between the beam's forward end and the beam's rear end which prevents that during training the turntable can move with respect to the bicycle.
The beam is preferably foldable to allow for easy storage or transport. The means for providing foldability is 25 preferably provided though the beam being made up of a series of beam-parts linked together by hinges.
The invention will hereinafter be elucidated with reference to the drawing of Figure 1-3 showing an exemplary embodiment which is not limiting of the appended claims.

In the drawing: -Figure 1 shows a side-view of a first embodiment of the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly; 35 -Figure 2 shows an aerial view of the first embodiment of the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly; -Figure 3 shows a side-view of a second preferred embodiment of the bicycle front-wheel steering assembly together with a bicycle; 40 -Figure 4 shows an aerial view of the second preferred i 3 embodiment of the bicycle frontwheel steering assembly shown in figure 3; -Figure 5 shows the second preferred embodiment of the bicycle frontwheel steering assembly of the invention in folded 5 state.
With reference first to Figure 1 a bicycle front-wheel steering assembly 1 is shown comprising a turntable 2 and a wedge-shaped stand 3 provided with a base 4. The turntable 2 is inclined at an acute angle 0 in relation to the base 4 of the 10 stand 3.
For clarity, the gear used for steering a bicycle typically comprises handlebars 1', connected via a steering column 3' to the front forks 2'. The steering column 3' typically passes through a front part of a bicycle frame 11. This 15 is also shown in figure 3. The steering column 3' provides an axis of rotation of the front-wheel 10 that relates to the steering direction of the bicycle 12. The turntable 2 and the steering column 3' of the bicycle front-wheel 10 are shown to be perpendicular (which is best shown in figure 1), thus the 20 bicycle 12 does not lean as a result of turning the front-wheel 10.
Preferably the receptacle 5 in the turntable 2 is embodied as a slot, which is clearly shown in figure 2.
Although not shown in the figures the bicycle front-25 wheel steering assembly 1 is provided with a sensor, preferably comprising a potentiometer, and preferably connectable to a computer, having a function of outputting an angular position of the turntable 2 with respect to a predefined position. The connection of the sensor with the computer is preferably wire-30 less, which is symbolized by the arrow A. The way in which this may be implemented is clear for a person skilled in the art and requires no further elucidation, or showing with reference to the drawing.
Figure 3 and shows a preferred embodiment of the bicy-35 cle front-wheel steering assembly 1 that includes a beam 6, wherein the stand 3 with the turntable 2 is releasably or fixedly positioned at one extremity of said beam 6, and wherein said beam 6 further comprises, at an opposite extremity, a facility 7 for accurate positioning of a supporting means 14 for 40 mounting a rear-wheel axel 15 of a bicycle 12. Figure 4 shows ! 4 the bicycle frontwheel steering assembly 1 of figure 3 without the bicycle, offering a clear view to the facility 7 which is intended to receive the supporting means 14 for the rearwheel axel 15 of the bicycle 12. ; 5 Both figure 3 and figure 4 show that preferably the beam 6 is foldable for transport or storage, which can be suitably embodied by arranging that the beam 6 comprises a series of beam-parts 8 linked together by hinges 9. Figure 5 in turn shows the frontwheel steering assembly 1 wherein its beam 10 6 is folded and the assembly is ready for storage or transport.
