Abstract
Description
Short description: wireless security system for monitoring trailers (such as horse, cattle and boat trailers), trailers and caravans.
The invention - hereinafter referred to as Trailer Alarm - relates to a wireless and modular security system for monitoring trailers (such as horse, cattle and boat trailers), trailers and caravans (Figs. 1b, 1). The invention offers a preventive solution for situations such as, for example, theft.
The electronics of the Trailer Alarm are integrated in a cylindrical housing with a ball head (fig. 1a, 3). This cylindrical housing with ball head is mounted in the ball coupling (fig. 1b, 2) of the drawbar. A pressure switch (fig. 1a, 1) protrudes from the ball head which activates the Trailer Alarm when it is placed in the ball coupling. The Trailer Alarm also provides an optical fiber (fig. 1a, 5) which can be arranged as extra security by means of a loop through the chassis, the object to be transported or, for example, an external hook (fig. 1b, 4). The Trailer Alarm can be (de) activated by the end user by holding an electronic key against the sensor on the Trailer Alarm. This electronic key contains uniquely coded information for every end user. If the Trailer Alarm is active and the Trailer Alarm is disconnected from the ball coupling and thus breaks the pressure switch, or if the optical fiber is broken, then the Trailer Alarm will send an alarm signal. The Trailer Alarm will also send a preventive alarm signal in the event of a low battery voltage, or in the event of undesired opening of the housing, as a result of which the integrated tamper switch is activated.
The invention is based on the use of a wireless data communication module, which may in practice be, for example, a low-power radio data module or a GSM telemetry module. Depending on the geographic situation (such as distance and buildings), and the country of application, the most efficient module for wireless data communication can be selected.
Figure 2a shows the principle diagram if a low-power radio data communication module (e.g., 433 MHz for Europe) is used for the Trailer Alarm. By means of this module, an alarm signal can be sent to a local receiver, which generates an audio-visual alarm locally or which, for example, can call out to a 24-hour alarm center. Figure 2b shows the principle diagram if a GSM telemetry module is used for the Trailer Alarm. In this case use can be made of the so-called Short Messaging Service (SMS). In this way, an alarm status, packaged as an SMS message, can be sent via the mobile network to the mobile phone of the end user.

To make the wireless data communication as safe as possible, a unique transmission protocol is applied depending on the data communication module. The content and sequence of this transmission protocol are shown in Figure 3. The transmission protocol first of all contains a user code (User ID) which gives each system a unique code, and thus prevents conflicts with possibly adjacent systems. This user code is followed by a Transponder code (Txp-ID) which indicates the type of Trailer Alarm, and with which a receiver can correctly interpret the type of data. The following block of data contains a Transponder address (Txp-Address), with this each Trailer Alarm is assigned an address and it is possible to prevent Trailer Alarms from conflicting with each other. If a user has several Trailer Alarms within a system, it is possible to use d.m.v. identify this transponder address at exactly where the alarm occurs. Finally, the transmission data is closed off by sending the Transponder values (Txp Values), which include: the alarm signal, the battery status and the tamper switch status. Both a unique user code and the transponder code are written during the assembly process by means of a so-called "firmware upload" in the microprocessor of the Trailer Alarm.
The block diagram of the Trailer Alarm is shown in Figure 4. A microprocessor takes care of the control and reading of all electronic circuits. For the communication use is made of a wireless data communication module, such as, for example, low-power radio data communication or a GSM telemetry module. The entire power supply is controlled by a voltage regulator that can also detect a low battery level early. The electronics circuit provides two switches for detecting an alarm status, including an external pressure switch in the ball head and an internal tamper switch. For monitoring the optical fiber, an optical transmitter is driven by the microprocessor and an optical receiver is read in. In the event of an alarm, an LED and speaker circuit will be controlled by the microprocessor. In order to be able to (de-) activate the Trailer Alarm, a sensor has been installed to verify the electronic key of the end user. For service purposes, an internal programming link has been provided, with which the microprocessor of the Trailer Alarm can be provided with new software if necessary.
