Abstract

An elastomeric copolymer comprising (wt. %): ethylene (25 - 85); ~a-olefin (15 - 75); and, opt., diene (\~ 20), is characterised by having no crystallinity above 25 deg C and a Uniform Branching Coefft. (UBC = g'(III) / PD) satisfying: 0.6 \- UBC \- 0.12 + 8 * 10-3 * ~D~d; g'(III) = {[~e] - b / [~e]*1}1.725; PD = polydispersity; ~D~d = phase angle shift during oscillation, measured at log ~w = -1 and at log ~w = +2; ~w = oscillation frequency (rad / s); [~e]b = measured intrinsic viscosity (dl / g); and [~e]*1 = apparent intrinsic viscosity (dl / g). Also claimed are: (i) an elastomer compsn. comprising the copolymer; (ii) an object (partly) made of the copolymer or compsn.; and (iii) a process for prepn. of the copolymer, in which ethylene and an ~a-olefin are copolymerised in the presence of a catalyst with reactivity factor (RF) 10.
