Abstract

An ionization detector (120) that reduces the filtering effects of the ignition coil (118) inductances by shorting an inductance of a primary winding (202) of the ignition coil (118). The ionization detector (120) includes a bias voltage source (220) and an inductance control switch (228). The bias voltage source (220) supplies electric voltage across an electric gap of a spark plug (116) for detecting ionization within the combustion chamber. The inductance control switch (228) is electrically parallel with a primary winding (202) of an ignition coil (118) and is operable to short an inductance of the primary winding (202). Figure 2.
