Abstract

A low pressure separation system comprising a separator (30) for receiving fluid from a well, and a surge vessel (32) for receiving liquid from the separator (30), characterised in that when the liquid reaches a predetermined high level in the surge vessel (32), a valve (40) on the equalisation pipe (52) connecting the surge vessel (32) to the separator (30) is closed and high pressure gas is directed into the surge vessel (32) by opening a valve (55) on a gas pipe (54), forcing the liquid out of the surge vessel (32) to a production header (22) via a liquid outlet, and when the liquid drops to a predetermined low level in the surge vessel (32), the valve (55) on the gas pipe (54) is closed, and the valve (40) on the equalisation pipe (52) is opened to equalise the pressure between the surge vessel (32) and the separator (30).
