Abstract

To provide a secondary battery capable of suppressing a generation of wrinkle at the outer peripheral edge portion of a negative electrode plate due to expansion of a negative electrode active material layer with use, thereby preventing deterioration in performance and reduction in cycle life. A secondary battery (100) includes a power generating element (110), wherein a positive electrode plate (10), in which a positive electrode active material layer (12) is disposed on a first current collector (11), and a negative electrode plate (20), in which a negative electrode active material layer (22) having an area larger than an area of the positive electrode active material layer is disposed on a second current collector (21), are stacked with a separator (30) interposed therebetween. The negative electrode plate includes a facing portion (20a) facing the positive electrode active material layer and a non-facing portion (20b) not facing the positive electrode active material layer. The negative electrode plate and the separator are bonded through the bonding layer (45). The bonding strength of a second bonding portion (45b) that bonds the non-facing portion to the separator is larger than the bonding strength of a first bonding portion (45a) that bonds the facing portion to the separator.
