THE SEALING ELEMENT (2) HAS A FEED LINE FOR A COOLING FLUID AND AT LEAST ONE COOLING CHAMBER (9), WITH THE COOLING CHAMBER (9) PREFERABLY BEING LOCATED IN THE OUTER REGION OF THE SEALING ELEMENT (2). IN ORDER TO SEAL THE PIPELINE (1), A COOLING FLUID IS PASSED INTO THE COOLING CHAMBER (9) OF THE SEALING ELEMENT (2), THE FLUID OR MELT SOLIDIFYING AND THE PIPELINE (1) BECOMING IMPASSABLE IN THE REGION OF THE SEALING ELEMENT (2).
