Abstract

Una composicion basada en oxido de circonio, que contiene oxido de cerio y tiene un área de superficie específica de al menos 30 m²/gr. después de calcinarse durante seis horas a 900 degree C. La composicion es una solucion solida pura de oxido de cerio y oxido de circonio. En una modalidad alternativa, la composicion además puede incluir un elemento dopante y tener un área de superficie específica de al menos 25 m²/gr. después de calcinarse durante seis horas a 1000 degree C. También se revela un método para preparar dichas composiciones, en donde una mezcla que contiene un compuesto de circonio y un compuesto IV de cerio es preparada en un medio líquido; la mezcla es calentada sobre los 100 degree C; después de ser calentado, el medio de reaccion resultante es ajustado a un pH básico; se recupera el precipitado resultante; y dicho precipitado es calcinado. Si se requiere, el elemento dopante es añadido a la mezcla líquida del comienzo o a la mezcla de reaccion obtenida después de la etapa de calentamiento.
