Abstract
The present invention relates to an automated system for controlled photoirradiation of in-vitro cell cultures. This system allows photobiological experiments to be carried out with the aim of optimizing the therapies in which light is used to treat and diagnose diseases, such as photodynamic therapy. The system consists of a graphical interface and a cabinet that contains a power and control module, a temperature measurement module and has a receptacle to locate an irradiation module. The experiments are carried out in microplates whose wells contain the cell cultures, and during the irradiation process the system automatically controls the temperature, the power density and the radiant dose in each well. These parameters are set by the user through the graphical interface, which also allows observing the evolution of the experiments. The system has several irradiation modules that can be changed depending on the wavelength and the microplate configuration used. This photoirradiation system allows to reduce the manipulation of the samples and is able to guarantee the same irradiation conditions for all the wells during the experiments, which are carried out quickly and efficiently.
